Hey looking into buying a new transducer can anyone recommend a good one that will sound up ground around 50-60m? I have the stock tranny that comes with the Lorawnce hds 5 at the moment and it only picks up depth.. Cheers

which transducer did you get
is it the 200kw skimmer transducer or is it the 500w 50/200 because i have the latter and it picks up the bottom on 200hrtz in 300 metres!

If say it would be the 200kw.. It came with the sounder... When I'm pretty sure the other models come with the better one. Ill have to dig up the box just to double check what I actually have though. Cheers

Yeah I'll have to lash out and buy a new one, I've played around with it a bit. How much am I looking at for the 500w if you know roughly?

You would probably be looking
You would probably be looking around the $250 mark for a new 500w one.

the 80/200htz tranny is about
the 80/200htz tranny is about the size of a 50c coin - the 50/200 is notably bigger (about 3x the size) the smaller 80-200 should still work in 50-60m of water so I'm thinking it may be your settings.
Make sure the unit is set to the transducer your using (the code is on the silver tag on tranny line where it plugs into unit)
make sure its set for reading saltwater (shallow for under 100m from what I recall)
gain/sensitivity should be at least 60-80%

Thinking about it more double
Thinking about it more double check the position/angle of the transducer as per the installation manual (booklet came with unit or downloadable in PDF from Lowrance website) if the above doesn't work.
