Replacing plywood deck on Center Console
Submitted by joel231 on Tue, 2025-08-26 18:42
Just wondering what people would reccomend when replacing the deck in my boat.
It currently has Marine ply, but i was looking into possibly using composite material, so i dont have to worry about it rotting again.
There is alot to choose from such as coosa board, Divinycell or King Starboard. Has anyone used any of these, or would you just stick with marine ply?
Cheers

A-A Marine ply
I would just use A-A Marine ply. Not that B-B or MDO Grade they sell at bunnings.
Make sure you get A-A Grade and you wont have a drama with rott. My old quintrex had A-A Grade that was put in it in 1996, 2 years ago I ripped all the carpet off and sanded it back and it was like new. Stuck EVA Foam to it and its never been better
Cheers

I looked at that composite product which i would have used had i the finances to support it.
Dont get cheap marine ply. Try to get it from a timber trader so you know its quality. I had to do mine twice because the marine ply i got first time round wasnt actually marine ply and rotted out within 18 months.

Its a weight thing also, the composites will suit if you want to save weight and just load up the eski.
In addition to the AA marine Play you can do a few coats of Vinyl ester resin, even a layer or two of glass.

I was in the same boat so to say.
Soak it in plenty of quality resin (vinylester or Epoxy if thats what your boat is made of) to make sure it is really well sealed before you glass it in the boat.
