Just heard on the radio about marine parks in the Gascoyne including the entire exmouth gulf.

1/3 of the gulf by the news.
1/3 of the gulf by the news. Most of the east side and I reckon all the islands down in the bottom of the gulf.
a mate who stays at Exmouth station has seen all the fisheries scooping around the gulf.
some of the best light tackle fishing down in the gulf.

Shit sandwich
During the demersal consultation, I contacted a few of the fishing groups and contacts along the NW region for support on the petition and emailing Ministers.
In a concerning number of cases the response was "it's not going to affect us up here so we aren't getting involved..." despite whispers of bag limit cuts coming south and north coast.
We always knew it was going to spread further than just the West Coast Region, and I'm also hearing more whispers and press releases alluding to the WCDemersal stocks getting worse despite no apparent actual research.
The sad fact is that if sufficient opposition couldn't be raised in the most populous region in WA, then the regions are already "dead men walking" so to speak.
Lets hope though, and its not a reason to simply sit back

The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

I do wonder what it will
I do wonder what it will mean for the commercial fisheries out of exmouth such as the prawns?
My initial thoughts were that it was a good idea to restrict commercial infrastructure (such as a proposed deep water Cruise ship port, or Twiggy's salt works....but know that will still find a way and us rec fisho's will get screwed.

It is just ridiculous IMO.
It is just ridiculous IMO. The impact of rec fishing would be so minimal on the gulf. Those who do go north to bring back fillets are generally chasing reds or deep drop species who will not be impacted at all (yet).
I'm not a particularly political person as a rule but I am so jacked off with these fuckers and the way they are running this state. Maybe get the healthcare system and housing supply issues under control and then worry about other stuff.

Maybe not much fishing
Maybe not much fishing impact but the spearing in the gulf would be huge. Supprised there is many coral trout left. It is a huge area though.
The gulf is extremely important to the whole ningaloo reef system. I few marine parks in the right areas would be ok with me.

I guess this comes down to
I guess this comes down to how they classify the parks. Most the fish I'm catching offshore up north is around 20km out minimum. Anything right on the coast line is not really an issue imo.
Love the West!
