See them around diving but
See them around diving but nothing large or in mass.
You would expect them to be more prevalent, considering the restocking program has been running for quite a few years i believe..

They lit up the sounder
And really liked the small squid strips. Biggest one lost at the boat was around 900mm (crappy net shot by yours truly ) .....makes for fun on light gear. Heaps of hungry snapper were a bloody nuisance as was a nice dhu. Never rated squid as a bait except for whiting but clearly liked by many more species

Squid strips
They do seem to like the squid for sure. I guess it is a regular part of their diet. When they are schooling I've slow trolled a small teaser with a squid strip on a single hook a couple of meters behind and they have come up for it. Seem to get really interested in teasers at the surface sometimes and have also seen them come up to play around any flotsam.

Can't believe you've never
Can't believe you've never rated squid Gordon !
Always been my favourite all round bait and I reckon I've caught more fish on squid than all other baits combined.
The one and only time I've cracked 20kg on a dhudog was on a squid head.
But I'm not talking about the second rate purple tinged stuff that you buy, I mean squid I've caught myself.
Every winter I make the effort to get enough Cockburn Sound squid to ensure I never have to buy bait.

Sounds like a fun session,
Sounds like a fun session, the demersal ban is a sore point but we do have other options to get out and get a fresh feed.
Had a session Sunday inside the sound catching herring for a trip north next month, mates young bloke landed and released a solid snapper..4pm approx. He was stoked.
Love the fresh squid bait, always keep the head and tentacles in the freezer.
