generators when camping for a caravan
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2026-10-18 14:47
Just looking at what the best generator would be to run an air con in a caravan when off grid. We have one at the .moment but quite noisy so looking at something that is quietish . Any experience and advice would be great

Honda is quiet
Genreally, they are very quiet but that's what you pay for.
I can run a 2kva for mine but would prefer a 3kva so it doesn't work as hard.

Depending on how much power
Depending on how much power your AC needs, Honda or Yamaha would be the go to units for reliability.
As I am sure you would know, the initial power demands from an AC unit are the killer rather than the constant draw once its running.
Alternatively, 800AH of lithium and 1600W of solar would get you through the night without any noise

Yes I agree. I have a 2400W
Yes I agree. I have a 2400W iTechworld power station that I use to run a second fridge/freezer and coffee machine on the boat. When hooked up to the solar blanket it drops to around 80% charged overnight and then gets back to 99% the next day. Never gets to 100% while it's being drawn on. I got it because having th egenny running all the time gave me the sh&ts with the noise.
They have one for about $2,400 that will run caravan aircon and would do a deal with solar for sure. It's great to have the power and no noise or fumes!
