Garden Island Restricted Waters
Went out for a squidding session yesterday, headed over to Garden Island just south of Buchanan Bay where we have been going squidding for the last 40 years.
Just after 8am we were approached by a 8-9 metre Niad with AFP emblazoned down the side. The federales on board informed us that we were in restricted waters as the boundaries had been changed.
We were told that the entire area from Colpoys Point to the Ammo Jetty were now out of bounds.
I asked how far out from the island was the boundary, they said they weren't exactly sure but in close to the island was restricted.
I asked when the changes came in to force as this was the first I had heard of it, again they said they didn't know but that's the way it is now.
I asked why these changes have been made, again they said they didn't know.
The fact that it was federal police, not just the navy has me worried that we may now locked out of our squidding grounds.
Has anyone else heard or seen anything ? Read anything ?
I'm hoping it may just be a temporary thing with that Yank nuclear sub on the base for a couple of weeks but that's not how it sounded the way they were talking.

There was
I did hear a few months ago. About a safety buffer zone ( inside and outside) of garden island. If it’s true not only squiding will be effected the white run in close will. Who knows . Could be a rumour
