Monster Mash PE 3-4
Submitted by snuffs on Thu, 2013-09-05 09:00
Snapped my second Daiwa Monster Mash (overhead) PE3-4 rod in about a month last night chasing snapper. Both broke about 3 guides down from the tip. I acknowledge the Monster Mash are a cheaper rod ($299), but I use them as spare rods stored inside the cabin of my boat when we were not on dedicated fishing trips (and for friends to use). Either way I wouldn't expect this to happen (twice). Both were 6-12 months old and used 1/2 dozen times or so. Anyone had this issue with these rods before. Both rods were kitted up with Daiwa LH30 reels with PE3 braid set on 1/4 drag. So no issues with drag or strain on the rods. Disappointing more than anything. Expect I will move to demon bloods for my spare rods now ...

Had mine for about a year, hasn't 'broken' on me yet. Have used to to haul up its fair share of sambos and pink snapper with no issues, have it coupled with a Shimano Trinidad 30A.
One thing I will say is that the reel seat of my rod appears to be twisting, so the reel is not sitting flush with the eyes, which is very annoying. I can adjust it with my hands, but will need to find a way to fix it back in place.

Twisting reel seats is a common problem
From what I've heard , mine is starting to move a little now . Sorry snuffs but your getting ripped if your paying $299 for a monster mesh max , got mine for $180 from complete angler in rocko , I have snapped one of the old monster mesh 3 eyes from the end but I will admit to high sticking that one

I have/had 3
older style MMesh when from recollection the price and standard was a bit better. Have caught all sorts including some BIG noah's off Dampier and still going strong. And the Mrs has one that has truely been abused on some bruisers. Never a single issue
Not using them down south here as I like a bend in a rod, and IMO to stiff for the size fish we get down here (other than the trusty sambos) and have upgraded rods to samurai's which I just love.

Thanks guys. Maybe I got a bad batch as I bought both of them possibly at the same time I think. As for the price ... not sure what I actually paid, it was just from memory ... hopefully it was less :)

Have had mine for about a year and a half in the pe3 matched with a saltiga game and not one issue and recently got another one spin as well for the branzino good rods for the price and yes should only be paying between 150 - 180 max otherwise you can pick a demon blood up for about 250-260

Flogged my pe3-4 and have had no issues, hardly used the 6-8 and the reel seat twists on that one.

probably a minor fracture which ended up failing. robbo 88 dont be put off by this. they are probably the best value for money rods besides the demonbloods.
