Mate go to one of the dams if you want to snare. Check a post by Ryan from Oceanside regarding technique and some good results. I personally went down twice last year to harvey and managed to snare 4 XO size clackers plus a load of good size 90-100 mm carapace. Biggest I got was around 130mm
Serpentine dam would have to have massive stocks in it, yet closed
Harvey Dam, Stirling dam (but havent had much luck there). Harvey River below Stirling dam where it croses the Harvey-Quandaning Rd (there is some tracks left and right). Can fish here snaring during the day, but does get packed. Also has blue marron in these water.
Waroona dam a little closer but hit and miss.
Collie river below Wellington Dam, and Welly Dam but the Collie locals has already poached it dry
Stirling dam is now closed to all fishing, they even have an exclusion zone for marroning in the creeks running through the catchment area! Such a shame we are blocked off from these public waters, would be a great acheivement for recfishwest to start getting access back but it seems unlikely to happen
Might be a bit harder at Harvey Dam this year as the water level is still ( and likely to be when season starts) a lot higher than last year , sure it will still be worth giving a go tho..
Yes Cransy , all locked up by water corp now , even have camera's on access tracks.
Rally Australia days. Use to "perposely" check the route early on from a safety and spectator site point off view around Stirling Dam to have any excuse to stop and have a marron in season. A good 6 months before the race but an excuse is an excuse.
I really miss going to watch the rally around stirling. The fact that you could drive the same course yourself when they were finished and see some of the lines they used was great. I also miss the access to the dam.
Personally recon the better snares are the ones you make , rather than buy , I use white (better visibility) plastic coated thin wire ( same as the stuff in landline phones etc) , allways take spare wire and replace reasonably often ( don't want it to break on big ol mossback!) . then get a green ( with a bit of "spring") stick and cut a groove around thinner end and twist wire tightly around end and a sliding noose on the other end , and in action!

But where are you from. Obviously if from Perth there is closer water, wheras if you live somewhere else we would be able to advise close sites.
