Anderson lead
Submitted by still trying on Sun, 2025-07-27 11:05
Hi all have had a bit of a stuff up on my boat and my lead from the battery to my cray winch needs replacing. It needs to be about 1.7m long with round 10mm I think terminals on 1 end and Anderson plug on other. I don't have the crimping tool and probably not worth buying for 1 lead. Just wondering where is best to get one from. I can always go back to where I got the winch just trying to avoid the drive down to safety bay.

Battery terminals
Bunnings carry all that still. Crimper as well as terminal. Better soldering them if you can.

.
Not sure if thats correct or not, very difficult soldering large cables especially if not crimped prior and the heat involved damages the insulation.
Crimping then sealing with glue lined shrink would be the preferred way wouldn't it?

Flood solder
Have seen a few videos where they simply heat the metal connector that goes inside an Anderson in a vice or clamp, then fill is up at least half way by melting the solder into it. After that they just plubge the wire into the molten solder and let cool the reinsert the connector back into the plastic Anderson plug. Looks like a solid way to do it.

Professional guys pretty
Professional guys pretty much only use crimp stuff these days. I think its alot better in terms of corrosion over time.

I've been using that exact crimper the last two days, best tool I've had so far to crimp. You need three hands when your in the boat tho!
