Cray Pot Depths
Submitted by kelsea on Thu, 2013-09-05 16:51
Anybody seen how deep the cray pots are at the moment. Heading out this weekend and figure on lookin' for some new ground. I head out from Ocean Reef and go straight out, or head north. I try to stay within twenty mile of the coast. Any help is appreciated

Anywhere
They could be set anywhere from 2 miles to 20 miles out and scattered. At this time of the year they will be potting limps with only one or two pots together
Please remember to mark the floats of any pots you snag up on to give the decky a warning that there is a sinker and hooks on the way up. Have seen the damage they can do and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Tied Rag
Have always tied a rag if I snagged the rope. Haven't managed to get out for a while and last time I did get out saw pots in the 40+'s. That was about 7-8 weeks ago now.

20 Miles due west of Ocean Reef
We saw quite a few 20 NM due west of Ocean Reef today near some lumps rising from 40 metres to about 25 metres

What's the go with cray pot
What's the go with cray pot floats? I headed out a couple of weeks ago from two rocks and some of them were bright fluroescent green and stuck out like dogs balls... others were like a dirty white/brown and could barely be seen until we'd run them over - not cool when you're stuck and there's waves coming for you.

Is it a legal requirement for
Is it a legal requirement for them to be easily visible? Because it's a bit of a safety issue and some of them are appaling....
