Illegal

Unless you are a black fella you cannot take anything off them because they are protected.

Same goes for whales, dolphins seals, whale sharks, sawfish, white pointers, grey nurse and northern river sharks

As Canarvonite said, gotta leave them there, and i know DEC would appreciate it if you let them know about it so they can go inspect the body to see if they can gain any info off it e.g cause of death.

Which isnt to say that people dont take stuff though. Was down at Bremer Bay a few summers ago and there were three dead false killer whales washed up on Fosters Beach when i drove along there in the morning. Driving back in the arvo all had their heads cut off. I think people like them for their teeth or something. For Turtles though, i guess a Turtle shell fruit bowl wouldnt look too bad......................just after the rotting flesh smell leaves hahahahaha.

i found one the size of a car bonnet! huge bloody thing. was up at lucky bay, it had been there for about a week so hid it in the bush for a few months to let the smell go and straight up on the shack wall with that sucker. the way i see it is if its still there for ages and undisturbed, obviously nothing has a use for it, so may aswell not let such a beautiful thing go to waste and rot away. just wipe it down with cooking oil a few times to get the shine back and the patterns to stand out.

Pong

Mon, 2012-08-06 20:15

We got a huge one in a monster tiger shark and decided to clean it because we had a few aboriginal deckies, stink, never smelt anything like it, very sickly sweet and so thick you could nearly chew it. The rest of the crew pissed off up on the bow of the boat  while we cleaned it, weak bastards!!!. Couldn't get the pong from my hands for about a week.

All came to no good anyway because the stomach acid even though it seem fresh, caused all the segments of the shell to delaminate and fall apart.

Vowed to never again try to clean one.

Just slip yourself inside one and if asked, your name is Donatello

Wondered

Tue, 2012-08-07 13:53

Always wondered what it would taste like without it being curried. Deckies mates in Hedland invited us around many times for curried turtle but never turtle on its own, must taste crappy if you have to disguise it with curry.
