Rod for monties trip?
Submitted by Shark B8 on Sat, 2013-09-07 11:08
Hi all am off to the monties soon and I am looking for a nice rod to take over there for flicking lures around, something that's going to handle the big GT's. I'm looking into the shimano range but I'm not to sure on which will suit, pairing it up with spheros 1800. Any suggestions or anyone have something laying around they want to get rid of? Chasing something around 7 foot or so. cheers kane

purely for poppers/stickbaits
purely for poppers/stickbaits or do you want a more multipurpose rod?
the new Ocea range has some nice rods but the 802 stickbait is a bit long, T-Curve revolution Offshore661 SW Spin is nice and short rated to 150gm bit a light line rating, spin 762 in that range has heavier line but 100gm cast weight.I have a T-Curve Bluewater Spin that i've used before 15-24kg's that i had 80lb braid on it which handled GT's to 10-15kgs.
it's going to be a trade off - stronger rod to handle the lures and fish vs something with more uses, i'd lean to a bigger rod seeing what reel you have, you don't exactly flick lures with a 18000 spheros, you chuck them!
for a more multipurpose rod look at the Wilson Live fibre spin range, a RLF19s or a RLF15 may also suit.

Chucking lures than :) 701h
Chucking lures than :) 701h ocea im leaning towards, Probley more multipurpose I was after. So many to choose from.
i know the 18000 is a big reel but its the only spare one I have to pair up unless I buy a new reel and I don't think that's an option.
Ill check out the Wilson range cheers

it was just because you said
it was just because you said Monties and big GT's, as you may have seen on here they get big out there and will really test a rod out if it's not quite up to it.

i took 2 rods when i went
i took 2 rods when i went out there, shimanp t curve kingmack and a shimano gt special, was more then enough grunt for out there and got on to a few 15-20kg gts and had no problems pulling them in, was matched to a saragosa 14000 with 80lb braid.
Cheers Joel
