Live aboard Charter for 60th B'day
Submitted by Jaf on Fri, 2012-05-18 14:17
Hi all,
I'm just wondering what your preference would be for a live aboard charter? My old man is turning 60 next year and the family has decided to book one for him for his B'day. Thoughts i have had so far are Monte's, Abrolhos and potentially Rowley shoals (pending how much his mates etc want to spend). Basically what time of year, good operators etc. Would like to do a variety of fishing from bottom fishing, GT, Macks etc Any help or info to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brad

Top Gun 11
Give Top Gun 2 charters a ring, they do 6 5 day charters out from Carnarvon for about 5 months and head up to Dampier to do the Monte's for a couple of months then down to Exmouth for a while or get in touch with Mahi Mahi 3 out of Coral bay and find out when he heads off north to do the Monte's from Exmouth.

great idea
Went to the Abrohlos islands with "top gun" charters last year, they were brilliant, so good we booked with them this year to go to the montabello islands in september, ill let you know how that goes when i get back....monties is more expensive if thats a concern...

Monties
I went to the Monties with BlueJuice a few years ago and that was great. If I went again I reckon I'd fork out a bit more and go with Montebello Island Safaris. These guys have got a live-aboard houseboat which you can hang back at and fang around the islands on their dingies if you don't want to be out in the boat. This might be a good option for the old boy in case the swell is up or he's having an off day or something. It also give you the option of a whole different type of fishing compared to heading out in the main boat.

You wont regret whichever one
You wont regret whichever one you do. I've done both Monties on the houseboat and Rowley Shoals on a 60 footer.
The flexibility of the houseboat and the different types of fishing at the Monties is great, you can also catch a huge variety of fish, crays, muddies and its pretty easy on the optic nerve. The Rowley Shoals is simply outstanding, with so many trout you have to knock the buggers off your line (cant keep any fish), handfeeding giant wrasse off the back of the boat, channel drifts, Sails, GT's, Trout, Red Bass, Maori Sea Perch. More and bigger everything but costs $$$
I haven't done the Abrolhos and am planning to do this but you cant go wrong with either of the above.
Enjoy

Rat Patrol No Longer
Sorry pgreen, Jay is focusing on his big boat up at Onslow, thus sold the Rat Patrol.
Reel Affair is now working out of that Pen.
Have been on the Rat Patrol the last couple of years ( Great Value )
This year eight of us went on the Reel Affair to the Abrolhos ( Outstanding ) See the photos of the boat below.
Hope This Helps
