How to catch King George Whiting and not Wrasse

I've been getting out on some prime looking KGW ground anywhere from Fremantle right up to Jurien Bay and have been struggling to get anything but bloody wrasse. I was wondering if anybody had any tricks up their sleeves on avoiding these buggers.

I've still managed to get my feed of KGW, but i prolly catch 1 whiting for every 10-20 wrasse...

I always figure if I'm catching wrasse im in the right type of ground for decent sized KG but yep I hear you the wrasse are quicker to the bait and can be a pain sometimes a short shift can be in order.

hooks

I'm using a paternoster rig with size 4 hooks when targeting whiting and anything from prawn, pippi or pilchard as bait.

Funnily enough, I've caught the biggest KGW when not targeting them at all and caught them on 5/0 suicide hooks when fishing for snapper.

Yeah they have no trouble with bigger hooks, I suggest using at least a 1/0 and you'll get a lot less shitfish. If you are getting small bites don't strike.
