Fishing gloves

Well, went out Tuesday and got a feed, but the last couple of days my hands have been itchy as. I'd have to assume it was from handling the fish... How many people use fishing gloves, and what styles are recommended? Obviously looking for something thats not too clumsy, but still prevents being spiked etc?

Take a look at the buff

Take a look at the buff gloves.  They are more a UV protection sort of thing, but if you want to keep away from slime, then buying a cheap box of disposable latex gloves from your supermarket of choice would be the easiest.

I think it's less the slime, more stop the bastards/hooks spiking me, and line when casting from smashing up the side of my fingers... :-)

Cheers

I always use a glove for small fish now after having a dorsal fin spike from a tarwine in my thumb for over a week (tried to pull it out and it broke off deep).

Timo, love it. Yeah they don't grow up tough nowadays do they. I was actually thinking a tablespoon full twice daily of Portland cement myself.

Seriously, if you are.getting some reaction when handling fish, maybe a good idea to get it first checked out medically. What fish in particular.

Timo's on the money, harden the F^%K UP, bad enough when they sit down to piss and use scented dunny paper.

Whats become of the younger generation, next thing they will have a servant doing it for them if it were at all possible.

No, fcktard, I think it's more a case of why suffer if you don't have to? If you're some sort of masochistic dickwad that likes a bit of pain to show you're a man, go for it... I'm man enough to say I don't want to have my hands itch like a bitch fr a couple of days after fishing so ill see if there's anything out there that might solve the issue.

Depends what fishing you are

Thu, 2013-07-04 16:13

Depends what fishing you are doing also I guess.

If anyone is putting in an 8hr day of casting 150gr+ GT poppers and not using gloves then they have my respect.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

haha nice tim

but i generally use gloves for casting - sometimes for jigging to.

The owner ones are not bad. Don't mind the Smith either.

And yeah, maybe it is, but this hand is itchy as buggery, and if I can find a way of not having to have it in the future, sweet as. Prevention is better than cure or endure...

Wear work gloves

Thu, 2013-07-04 12:58

I use a few sets of iron clad "framer" gloves for work alot of the time, has very top of thumbs, index and middle fingers exposed while ring and small are enclosed. They are good for cold mornings casting, great protection from spikes and have good grip yet u can keep them on when tying knots etc. around $20-$30 and tax deductible! Got mind from bunnings

If you were using squid for bait either old local squid or the inported small squid it can be from the juices of them

Nah in all seriousness i use owner gloves. Ones with a few fingers cut off so you can tie knots and bait up.
I have lost them and acually need to go buy another pair before Kalbarri.
I mainly use them while fishing for big stuff. I dont bother for around perth chasing bream, flattys , tailor etc.
Proberly should seeing as though how much i get spiked and cut

Haha, I only have gloves on

Thu, 2013-07-04 18:12

Haha, I only have gloves on the boat for when the anchor jams. Tarwine and skips have spikes, and the skips like most trevs have tail flutes to watch out for. I got jabbed by an anal spike on a pinky a few weeks back, swelled up, then got itchy like a bee sting does or any infection. Care must ne taken when handling fish, I never touch wrasse and shit fish just wrap em in the rag I use to wipe my hands when using burley or bait. Unless you got on your hands what that woman did in her mouth last year, squid jizz.....or spermataphores. Prob allergic reaction or increased iritation if u had dry cracked skin
