Edit - two rocks saturday and the weather forecast is looking fantastic

anyone fishing out of two rocks this saturday?

i'll be heading out about 9 - 10 mile just north of nw (maybe further upto 25nm), so if anyone thinks i'm pinging their spots, i'm not!  already have some to look at.

hope there other boats out that way, because its just nice to know someone else is around...

good luck all

windfinder.com has 8 kt easterlies in the morning, dropping to 2 kt seabreeze about 2pm and to increasing 9 whole kts for the run home!

The 25 mile decision won't be made until we're out there and see what it it like, and only if we're not catching anything at the 9 mile mark!  Don't believe in wating fuel when you can catch fish closer to home.

that should be WNW, not NNW

Wed, 2012-08-22 20:37

that should be WNW, not NNW as i put....

local knowledge request - the passage out of two rocks marina, to the northwest looks on the chart to be pretty clear except for the two 5m lumps about 2 - 2.5 mile out.  is it a fairly safe passage out that way?  the recommended leads out head further south - to the southern side of gretel reef.

the swell doesn't worry me, i like it actually, it makes it much easier to see the hard bits that are close to the surface.  always like to have another boat close by, particularly going out wide, so may be another time.

Fri, 2012-08-24 18:41

read a chart bro ,

big gaps in isobars mean light winds , and when they are close together ie front way down south , means strong winds .

take into account the direrction a H or L spin and you can tell whats happening.

thats a very very basic definition and there things that influence change.

sure do

Fri, 2012-08-24 21:06

but i think more so in the extremes - in the heat of summer you get the heat troughs of the coast that the sea breeze trys to get through. some days the trough is so strong the sea breeze never makes it and that can be hard to predict. im no weather man have just picked up a few things from years of watching patterns for surfing , the snow over east and nowdays getting the boat out.

the most stable/predictable weather to me seems to happen in winter as far as wind strengths go although as everyone knows the sea breeze in summer is always gonna be there. (except during a heat wave)

Yeah, I found in summer, the strength of the easterly determines when, if at all, the seabreeze comes in
