G'day All,
Next weekend I am heading down to dunsborough for a few days of relaxing. It's for mum's 50th and she is a massive fan of fresh squid so my question is whats it like down there lb squidding are there any good spots or none at all?
I'm not takin the boat down, cbf towing it all that way for 5 days while the bans on but wouldn't mind going after a feed of squid if possible.
Any info would be much appreciated.....
Cheers

boat
scotto the boat is a 7mtr not something small you would put in to chase a few squid, if I took the boat down it would be more of a go out and fish the maybe try for some squid on the way in.
plus being the old ladies 50th she doesn't want to be out on the boat all weekend she wants to do the vineyard side of it and all that, the squidding will be either an early morning or late arvo event whenever I can sneak away.
Cheers sabre I might stop in there and say g'day, although not always a good idea because I will probably end up buying stuff I "need" lol

dunsborough options
Gday Keen as Fisho,
Plenty of squid in the bay, from busso to the cape, but only a couple of spots that you can access them from the dry stuff. Like the other lads said, Busso Jetty is a worldclass squidding platform, with late arvos and evenings the best time to jag a couple. The other spot closer to Dunsborough is the Quindalup finger Jetty, located down near the sea rescue building. It is only a small jetty, so if there is already crew fishing, it is hard to get your line in the good areas. the other spot i would try is the end carpark of Bunker Bay. if you walk down and flick your jigs into the deeper water, you are in with a pretty good chance, and it is a much nicer location than jetties. As far as jigs go, there are your cheapies, and your better quality jigs, usually coming from japan. The main difference between cheap and quality, is the sinking patter. With your cheap jigs, they are weighted from the head, and will sink like a rock once the tension is taken off your line, giving it quite an un natural action. The better quality jigs will sink horizontally through the water column until they hit the bottom, giving you much more chance to entice the squid into having a go. Colours in squid jigs is very much down to personal preference, but squid can change in a matter of hours, one minute hitting orange like its going out of fashion, the next they wont have a bar of it. Oranges and pinks are a good searching colour if you are just drifting or walking and casting, and if you are setting up in one spot, then start mixing your colours up to see whats working. We have heaps of squidding gear in the shop from jigs to rods to line, so call in and let us know who you are, and we will help you out where we can.

Any of the high quality jigs with a bit of lumo in it, squids see biolumoesance so they jump all over it.

Thanx for that info Zac,
I have already got all my squid gear sorted I go quite frequently up here and yes I am a big fan of the expensive jigs not the cheap ones.
I am now contemplating taking my tinnie down to have a bit of a put around over the weed beds and maybe even through a couple of crab pots over to see how I go on that front.
I still may pop into your store anyways it's always good to have a look in local tackle shops wherever you go :)
Cheers for your help!
