Throwing fish frames back in the ocean
Went to throw a few small frames in the water lastnight in dunsborough an had a guy from busselton shire go ape s$&t at me and take my photo! ( Didnt appreceate a camara in my face) I normally give them all to fisheries but it was to late for them to pick up an I was leaving early morning. I was told to go pick them up or I'd get a $500 on the spot fine! I told hit I was setting crab baits and would take them home when I finished. This made him proper flip!!! Swearing and started taking more photos on his phone of my car. I told him if he didn't stop I would give him a $500 on the spot dental bill! All the fuss an a few people had gathered. One of the guys in the crowd asked wot was going on and the guy from the shire explained that he has photo evidence of me litterinf an would take me to court! the random guy snatched the phone and threw it in the wate and ran off!! Absolute legend
any one heard of littering with fish in the ocean?
Any one free to help me pull my drum lines tomorrow?

Yeah, that sounds pretty
Yeah, that sounds pretty rediculous to me. I guess if it was a large amount of frames in a shallow, still water way it might get a little 'on the nose', but.....
A bit extreme if you ask me.

He has no right to treat you that way ! One thing for sure if he treated you this way, You wont have been the first,Im sure there will have been others to already complain Put in a complaint and you can bet his job will be finished.

pretty sure
Hate to be the party pooper but I think the ranger might be right (certainly not the way he went about it though) I remember something vaguely in the Ningaloo regs that all fish carcasses needed to be burried in a pit 90cm deep and atleast several meters above the high water line. Don't quote me on that, just remember something about it so they may have something for down that way. (might be in the fisheries regs?)

Well that just suxs then
And IMO is stupid. The life cycle in the Ocean depends on dying creatures (Circle of life). Crabs etc eat the frame, feed other fish that feed other fish and finally we catch one of the apex fish, drag it out of the ocean, use the fillets and then not returning it.
I always return fish waste to the sea. Have I been breaking a law. All my frames, old bait etc is dropped out on the way to a fishing spot (boat) unless I need burley. Even crabbing I return the shells etc to be recycled.
I agree it should just be thrown offshore to wash up on the beach and stink the place out, but why not return it to where it came from?

Recycle
I agree crasny1 return what you can. Along the shore line (high water mark) is more likely the point of contention here. Ranger could well be right, keep area free from fish frames so as not to attract grey suits and keep beach clean. Might not be a pleasant sight or smell if everyone did the same thing in one area. Not sure if this is a popular spot for all recreational users. How many LB Fisho's clean their fish and throw the off cuts back where they came from. I do but it's not in an area where people swim regularly. I'm all for returning fish waste.
Sounds like the attitude and manner of the ranger has a bit to be desired. Start with education and an explaination why would have gone a long way.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

Depends on where you dump it.
Depends on where you dump it. Most of Dunsborough beaches are used for swimming. I wouldn't like to go for a swim and tread on a fish frame.
Dropping frames out to sea is a different story.

1. I suggest to go to the shire and report him. Go on do it. Have the last laugh. Or are you too gutless to do that.
2. Still able to recover data from sd cards that have fallen the drink. My son dropped my last phone in the toilet and we managed to get some data from it ..
3. The random guy was a tosser and should have minded his own business and was even cowardice for deliberately destroying someone else's property then running away.
4 what was wrong with doing the right thing and throwing it in the bin anyway. Or is it the CBF factor.
5. Would have loved to see you give him a knuckle sandwich.... Hitting a public officer is a serious offence - if you are that smart you would have noticed that.

My son was less than two when he put his mum's phone in the bin. The sneaky little bugger had realised that it detracted from the attention he received from his mother. Lucky it was just the bin!

Yeah i wonder how that would have gone down if it was Cott or Trigg.Ranger was probably sick of telling crew the same thing all summer. Best to chuck em back next trip out or bury them in your veggie garden back at home.

There are two sides to every story, but the Busso rangers do have a reputation of yell, scream, fine first, rather than have a frindly chat and let people know they are doing the wrong thing.

Cow
Not like some smart prick who recently decided to dump half a cow in the middle of Carnarvons new boat ramp. Looks like they shot it and gutted it in the bush then carted it in to town and skinned the hind quarters , took them then dumped the rest. Full fore quarters, hide still attatched, hocks and any little bits left over.
Have seen goat skins and hocks, fish frames and bucket loads of crab shells dumped over at Dwyer's leap stuffing it up for anyone who wanted to swim at the quiet little beach.
Do what I do when filletting fish, when you have finished take them down to the bin at the marina by the ramp or freeze them and take it with you for burley on your next trip. Don't dump them down the beach and stuff it up for everyone else because you are too lazy or greedy to spend the money for fuel to get rid of it properly.

I eat em
I usually cook the frames and eat the flesh off the bone. Either that or I cook it whole. Always throw the guts and scales in back in the water though. Can't be worse than the dog shit some shmucks leave on the beach there.

Ranger sounds like he went
Ranger sounds like he went over the top but what is the difference between dumping an apple core on the verge and a fish frame in the water especialy at waters edge personally neither is rite I mean both are going to be eaten and broken down but no one needs to see or smell it. Just because someone is rite doesn't mean they can be an ass about it. Now all I have to do is catch some fish so I have something to dump :-)

Classic! love the random
Classic! love the random dude.
I got busted for not having a fishing license ages ago (fair cop) and fisheries guy dumped all my fish off the ramp right next to a swimming beach.
Was it the ranger or the receptionist from the shire? taking heaps of photos of the car is funny. Is he allowed to take a photo of you without your permission?
Gotta love heros, the other day I paid for a bag of ice at the petrol station and grabbed it on the way out and started jogging cause I was in a rush and some lady yells out at me! understandable but funny.

I keep what I can for cray
I keep what I can for cray bait etc, rest gets frozen and disposed of out to sea or put in the bin the night before rubbish collection. To the letter of the law the ranger is probably right and he's done nothing wrong, for someone to damage him or his property is. If he is a ranger this won't be the last you've heard of this. Probably lucky that one side of this argument controlled themselves this could easily end up with one party seriously damaged, read about one punch attacks with regularity now days but no one was to blame apparently. No respect for others now days

I have no problem with anyone
I have no problem with anyone dumping fish frames etc out to sea but on a beach or in shallow water it can be a different problem altogether.
I know of two caravan parks which have cleaning tables on the beach and they are trying to address the problem of people feeding frames to pelicans and seagulls.
The problem is the seagulls (mainly) don't eat the whole frame and the beach ends up littered with frames and bones. Last year a 8 year old boy had one peirce his foot and required a trip to Hospital (and probably a tetnus shot to boot) whilst we were there.
Cheers

the ranger was right in
the ranger was right in giving you a fine asa technically it is classed as littering same as throwing any other rubbish out on the side of the road, but there is a right way of doing things.
as mentioned about disposing of the carcases out in deep water, it is still classed as littering but who is going to catch you doing it. i have disposed of fish frames and so forth in the water myself but never at the waters edge where someone might step on it. also you got to think about the fact there have been numerous shark scares down that way iver the last few weeks and im sure this wouldnt help any as it would bring them in .
i might be a bit of a wowser as far as my comments go but look at the legalaties of it.
the ranger was wrong the way he went about it but so were you wrong about what you did.

You definitely owe that bloke
You definitely owe that bloke a carton!! Haha
But I actually like throwing my frames back in the water, probably wouldn't do it at a popular swimming beach or anything. But when I do it from the boat I know none of the fish got wasted, I ate the fillets and the rest went back for the fish to feed on

I agree probably not the
I agree probably not the right thing to pitch the frames in the shallows for all of the reasons above, I also agree that the Shire person was out of line.
I have actually met one very similar who objected to us driving a vehicle at Coral Bay with more people in it than there were seats for ie we were all crowded into the back of a Cruiser. He threatened to dob into the police and took it on himself to follow us around to see where we were staying. It could have ended very ugly but at least he had the good sense when we stopped to discuss the matter to retreat and clear off. Just another one of those jack-booted nazi fascist scum who overstepped his authority, but thats another story.
back to the frames in the sea . . .
Now that we have permission to fillet at sea this would imply that we can dispose of the frames and offal at sea or is the expectation that we will go to the trouble of filleting in a rocking boat on a small table and then bring the offal back in with us ?
