It's official
http://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?ItemID=150938
For the coming season, recreational fishing regulations will be amended to:
• Decrease the escape gap size on rock lobster pots to 54mm, which will better reflect the 76mm minimum size limit that applies to recreationally-caught rock lobsters
• Increase the number of licenced fishers able to operate from a boat to three. The boat limit rises to 24 with three licensed fishers able to catch eight rock lobsters each
• Allow licensed fishers to dive for lobsters at the Abrolhos Islands
• Increase the number of pots which may be pulled per boat trip to six, when there are three or more licensed fishers on board. Daily possession limits will apply.

Wow. I can't believe they
Wow. I can't believe they actually gave us something back! Considering how little rec crayfishers take as a percentage, and that we were way under allocation, it makes sense to adjust the rules. However, sense is not something you expect from government! Usually what would happen if we werent "using our quota" is that the quota would be decreased :S.
The 3 fishers per boat is interesting. More than once, we've split divers across boats (though it helps for more space for gear too) as it sucks getting 4 each max if you've got 3 divers, or 3 if you've got 4. Now even with 4 divers on the boat, you could grab 6 each, which will be good for the slightly larger dive boats. I think some charters had to adhere to the rules too in that regard?
The abrolhos one is the most interesting though! I've hit the abrolhos every year since the first time I went there (often more than once a year :p) and would be great to be able to dive for crays over there.

I'm a member of RFW but I never could work out why some rec fishers dislike them so much??
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Great news and a good reason for people to join up to the organization and support the volunteers who fight for all your rights. http://www.recfishwest.org.au/content/membership/
This announcement was after a couple of years of discussions with DoF and the minister. Recfishwest formed a community reference group made up of people from all over the state to take scientific advice chaired by longterm recfisher Norman Halse. They then reviewed this information and came up with a set of recommendations to the RFW Board, who then took these to the Minister.
The outcome was that we see announced today.
Well done to the Community reference group!
With the restructuring of RFW to a smaller strategic Board, there will be other reference groups formed to give advice on other important recfishers such as abalone, freshwater and marron, clubs and associations, artificial reefs, fish stock enhancement and others as required. Positions on these groups is open to all and will be advertised once Terms of reference have been decided.
Lots more exciting announcements to be made over the next 6 months
Do you want to have your say on recfishing management? Or just whine about it on fishing forums?

me neither grazeee,
for the minimal cost of it, it absolutely dumfounds me why more rec fishers arent signed up. same for shooters and fishers, and the like.
lets face it, nearly every one of us would spend more cash on any single trip out in the boat, or at the local tackle shop. some would spend more on a standard lunch.

Good news BUT
I agree with this as a great move for rectreational cray fishers, but (there always is) why have they increased the number of catchers from 2 licences per boat to 3?16 to 24? After speaking with some diver friends we came up with the only conclussion/We all know there is a small increase in shark activity, and the goverment is looking to protect the beach going public, what better way than to have more divers in the water ,as they (1) tend to cray fish on the outer reefs,(2) the more divers in the water, the more foood for the sharks to look at before they get to the beach.this way its a win win,the public is leept safe, and the number of divers will die (drope) off after the first 2/3 attacks, thus saving the cray stockes and swimmers.

not sure about this
acording to the fisheries web site it still states 8 per licence holder but boat limit of 12.......unless i missed something
maybe they need to update the web site or maybe we need to go off what is in the brochure as of now or until it's in print from fisheries
