screen is way to small to be running as a split screen! but if the down vision could work in 600 feet that would be interesting

 Here's my dumb question. Why

Sun, 2013-02-10 10:19

Here's my dumb question. Why is the screen resolution only 640X480? In computer speak that's 1980's stuff where as nowadays we're up to 1920x 1080. Or is there a reason for such a low resolution?

Because the screen is so

Sun, 2013-02-10 10:30

Because the screen is so small. Its only 5.7" diagonally.

One of the monitors on my computer is 27" and 2048 x 1152.

The issue is pixel density. In actual fact, the screen has quite a high density, 2.5 more pixels per square inch than my big screen.

Some brands use a big, but low resolution screen to try and look like they're jumping up on the opposition offerings. Standard Horizon use a big, but low res screen to make their offering competitive.

Simrad's NSS/NSE12 are both 1024x768, Raymarine's E125/127 are both 1280x800, and that is 25% more pixels for the same size.

well said Pixel rating is not the "be all and end all" on a sounder or plotter! When talking 50" TV with Blue Ray DVD and HD movies then yes but not on 5" and 7" screens.

Thanks Jamie. I had always wondered about this as the images displayed are quite crisp so as you say comes down to pixel density....makes sense.

Ta for the props

Ta for the props guys.

Further that display image is super crisp but that leads into the next problem - lots of brands photoshop the crap out of their adds!

Chirp downscan is going to be hot!

Deep

Thu, 2013-02-21 21:41

The unit isnt very powerfull so looks like it will struggle deeper.

Specs only say to 600ft and even the old Navmans used to be rated to about 2500ft.

Still could be a good second unit for shallow work.

That is for real.

Its from a wreck off Sydney.

Navman never released a downvision product, so its not comparable, but who really cares what they rated navmans to, they were always crap anyway? Raymarine state ~400m for regular chirp sounding off the same unit.

Remember its under $1k us with tranny and its a baby chirp product.
