Not wanting to sound like a sissy but..

Is there a way to stop braid cutting into your finger when casting?

Do gloves fix this? Tried some gloves from work (ninja mechanics gloves) and the first cast cut straight through them.

 As said longer leaders work

Thu, 2012-06-21 10:51

As said longer leaders work well and I always put the line on the middle of the tip on my finger not at the join, skin seems to be thicker there and don't have problems anymore.

Gloves and long leaders are

Gloves and long leaders are the key.

I'd have thought very few people can cast GT poppers all day with the braid on their fingers - I just make sure my leader is long enough so that your finger is on that not on the braid

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

balloons

Cut the neck off a balloon that you will already have in your tacklebag, give it a bit of a stretch so as not to be too tight and you will be casting like a charger.

get aowner or gamakatsu finger glove.

they slide over one finger and wrap around your wrist.

Sometimes I fish for 12 hours a day on trips and comps cant do without one

Fuggin wooss! LOL

Toughen up sweetheart.

Wind-on leaders are the answer but getting the join right is essential and that leads to another topic. I have tried all sorts of knots and taken the tip of my rod off a few times as a result of poor joins. I know it's a hard knot but the FG knot works very well for me. The other tip I have up my sleeve is to burn the tip of your index finger a few times with your cigarette or lighter.... that helps to develop quite a hardy callous after a while .

Lol, does your husband fish

Thu, 2012-06-21 12:57

Lol, does your husband fish too? Jokes Just wrap something around it. Anything from medical to masking tape, or buy some cheap bandaids

The cloth type stuff works best, like sports strapping tape

Use the Elastoplast sports

Thu, 2012-06-21 20:23

Use the Elastoplast sports tape..$10, the box with the ankle taped up on the front, it will last ages. I use it to put on my fingers when i lay bricks in winter when the skin wears through and it stays good all day, molds to the skin well

 I dont use anything

Thu, 2012-06-21 20:25

I dont use anything anymore.. Unless I'm casting 85g+ I don't even feel a thing anymore. Otherwise just run a longer leader all the way down to the reel.

An infamous SW fisher told me

Fri, 2012-06-22 02:29

An infamous SW fisher told me the finger of a rubber glove works wonders. Make sure its pink!

That feeling of braid digging in on that power cast to that distant school of salmon. ouch! Then trying to cast far enough to the school with the same finger or other fingers takes skill, extreme pain and frustration!    I think the more you cast the more tender your finger tip gets and as soon as you give a little more oomph thats when you get cut. maybe not
