Hey guys,
I live in Woodvale (near joondalup) and am looking to catch some tailor.
I dont have a 4wd but i do have the gear to catch them! just need to know where!
i went to hillaries the other day, off the beach right next to the fisheris, i had bites but nothing wanted to take it for a run. I was wondeing if this was a good spot and if anyone could give me some advice as to where to go increase my chances??
any respons would be fantastic!

Tailor
I have fished Sorrento before with some guys from work (just South of Hilarys) and taken Tailor to just under 50cm a few weeks back but I find the Hilarys area a bit inconsistent. If you want to stick with Metro fishing head a bit further down to Floreat, Brighton and Trigg beaches there may be a chance of a few salmon around at the moment and the cooler weather has cut the crowds down a bit. I don't know if you are bottom bashing or spinning but Poppers and Halco twistys are worth a shot and bait wise you cant really go wrong with Mulies on a 4/0 or 5/0 gang.
Otherwise go north for more quality fish, there are plenty of areas of coastline accessible without 4wd.

Pinnaroo, Burns Beach, Quinns
All these places produce some really good catches.

hey mate I have perfected my
hey mate I have perfected my metro tailor fishing this year and found one of the best metro spots for big greenbacks, most of my tailor catches are over the 60cm mark and my PB is just over 80cm and that is pretty good for metro, not many ppl like telling ppl there spots but I will go ahead a let u know and u might have a chance to catch the big ones some time, Trigg Beach Blue holes, it's definitely not a spot for beginners and if u have never fished there before be prepared to go thru a few rigs, I started of using a basic 3 way swivel with size 4/0 sinker and 4/0 gangs and from the first day on I've caught big tailor, I now use poppers and my fav metal slice the spanyid sniper 50 works the best for me, a good tip if u want to use bait is don't use a sinker just bait cast mullies on a 3 gang and u might get some strikes, but there is heaps of reef and rocks around so be prepared to get snagged, my tip is to try flick u bail over as soon as ur bait of lure hits the water and start retreiving straight away, I've caught most of my big tailor there just on sunset and when its dark even as late as midnight I've still caught the big ones.
here is a few pics of my tailor catches this year and most recent ones as last week

Brett, are you casting from the shore or walking out onto that little rock groyne? -I'm not 100% sure where the blue holes are..

Some nice fish there Brett.
Some nice fish there Brett. I've been fishing there for years and have caught some great fish there. Haven't been for a while though. May see you there one day. Just a heads up though, pretty sure there is a limit of only 2 tailor above 50 cm. changed from only two over 60 cm. Might save you some headaches when you come in one night ;)
Kind regards
Bretto

Do the tides matter when
Do the tides matter when fishing for tailor from trigg beach. I imagine less snags at high tide ?

thanks for the tips and spots guys!
I ended up going to Hillarie's tonight again, off the beach near the fisheries. was there for just short of 2 hours and only ended up with 1 catch, a tailor just over 49cm.
great fun though! ran with the line for a bit as i was busy dealing with something else and didnt have the rod in my hand haha, on retrieve it started jumping out of the water and put on a good show.
Its funny how you can go nearly 2 hours with nothing and then just one fish can make it a successful trip!

Microsoft word
You have typed up your response in microsoft word, the coding in word conflicts with the site so you get all the jargon in there. Easier just to post in the comment box to avoid that problem, or use notepad as that has no code in it. All good, i would delete it but takes ages n my ipad and i have no internet at my new house yet.

Hey Brett. I'm one of those fishos with a tripod. Very handy as usually the best fish are caught in the biggest swell. Wouldnt be possible to fish some nights without it. Maybe see you there one day. Cheers, Bretto.
