Not really a very good

Probably not really a very good situation to be diving while there are lines over the side.

Forget the shark side, what if they dont see you returning and you get hooked?

As said, though 50 people can fish on your licence so long as its just one bag limit kept, on the question of "while your diving", just return to the boat if you hear a boat approaching?

Go down the anchor line

Go down the anchor line ;)

Though with 5min minimum to return the fisheries boat would have well arrived, in which case you might be better finishing your dive. They'll either piss off with a message for you to contact them, they'll give up waiting, or they'll stick around and it doesnt matter how long you take, at least enjoy your dive :p.    Though I think the chances of being able to hear a boat approach your boat is pretty slim.

Not sure about the rules. They can fish under your bag limit, but i suspect fishing while you're blowing bubbles would be up to the officers interpretation. It should'nt be a problem, but you cant guarantee you wont get a really narky fisheries officer having a bad day (but to be fair, all my dealings with fisheries, they've been quite nice, even in some situations where it was a bit of a grey area).

or tell him to get a license

or tell him to get a license its only $40 or something. 1 fish would pay for it.

Yep, just get a license.  It is not really that expensive, and apparently, the money goes towards improving our fishing experience.

With a dive flag up no other

Fri, 2013-03-29 16:43

With a dive flag up no other vessel is allowed within 50m of your boat. So fisheries can't approach till your back on deck and flag is down.

Wrong

All it states is that there is a diver down and you can proceed with due care at  no more than 5 knots.

the flag means stay 50m clear or if you do need to approach do so with extreme caution

While on the subject ?

Fri, 2013-03-29 17:50

Going out tomorrow and had a tidy up on the boat, and couldn't find the fishing license. I certainly have one but looked high and low with no result, if fisheries were to check me out am i allowed to give my license number ? I have the last 2 years on board but being pedantic, fishing i guess will fine me ? Thoughts ? Have looked on line and can't find any info.

Yes i was previously asked for my throw net license and had to photocopy the details through to them next day. As long as you don't get a revenue raiser trying to show the badge, which i have heard of happening up our way.
