Some FW crew have bad manners
I have just come across another post where someone is trying to sell an item and some of the "know it alls" on this site have decided to derail his ad.
If you have any helpful advice you would like to offer to someone selling an item, use the correct protocol and send them a PM. If the item is too cheap, too expensive, who cares. It is not up to individuals to make a hero of themselves.
Adam, could you please look into placing a stick on top of the for sale section clearly stating that posters are not to negatively comment on for sale items. Unfortunately this type of behaviour is getting to common and it gets me riled up.
If you think my stand point is wrong, feel free to reply and we can start up a discussion on the matter. For those who agree with me, let Adam know that you feel the same.
End of rant...for now.
PS: Bad manners $hit me to tears.

Nanny State
You would rather see a FW member get smashed on price than let someone point out the fact that it was over priced or not very good value, Sorry to have bad manners but if your not happy with what someone has posted let them or admin know don't go trying to stop the majority of people from trying to save fellow FW members from being ripped off. You think if someone has over priced something a PM is going to get them to drop their price, I thought we were meant to be a bunch of like minded people who looked out for each other and offered our advice.
We live a nanny state as it is and meaningless little rules like this are over the top.
P.S. Punishing the Many for the sake of a Few Really gives me the $hits

Just found the Add in Question
The add you are talking about the guy is trying to sell a reel that is $499 inc free Postage from Motackle for $575, He might have paid $800 with braid two years ago but prices have came down since then and While it could have been done in a nicer way I still have no problem with someone pointing something like that out.
If you want to post a 2 year old reel forsale on a public forum for the same or more than a new one and later model then you leave yourself open to be called out. That may have saved someone from over spending and that is a better outcome than someone being ripped off.

Nanny state
So you don't want a nanny state, but in the same voice you don't want individuals to be responsible for their own action. That's a bit of a contradiction.
If someone is stupid enough to pay too much then so be it. It sounds like you actually do want a nanny state where someone else is responsible for your inability to do a bit of research before buying something.
I love the for sale section as much as the next.

You are the one trying to
You are the one trying to impose extra rules on people, the site has rules which cover what you want and if the sole point of your post is to point out that some people are rude and don’t have manners then I would accept that point because you are right.
But to add more rules that will stop people doing what they feel and believe is the right thing to do just because a few members don’t have manners is in my opinion a load of crap.
Complain all you like about poor manners, send PM’s and report them till you are blue in the face but when you want another crappy little rule (Nanny State Policy) then as a member of this site I am quite within my rights to express my displeasure for the new rule and articulate my reasons as long as I don’t personally attack you.
I haven’t said I don’t want individuals to be responsible for their own actions, If some numb nut pays to much well that is his problem. It is not a contradiction to want freely express my opinion on a public forum about the price that is advertised. Let me ask you this, if your friend was going to spend too much on an object that you had a good knowledge about would you say something? People join sites like this to share and learn not to be ripped off and you want to introduce a rule because of a rude minority that goes against the very fabric that this site is built on.
At the end of the day I agree with you on the manners side but I don’t agree with your proposed method to deal with it.

Ok
I'm not keen on having too many rules either. But, sometimes, unless things get formalised it is near on impossible to get things to change.

Bad manners are
Bad manners are unfortunate.
But if the sellers are copping it a bit for their prices, that is ok too. Some of the prices you see people advertise at, they're higher than retail and there is nothing wrong with letting the seller know.
Maybe just try not to be too rude about it. In a few cases, the sellers don't know the prices are loopy, and then there are the rest of them ;)

Yep, wrong or overinflated pricing is a pain, but just send them a PM. No need to imply that the seller is trying to rip someone off.
If someone is lying about the quality or condition of an article, then by all means, ask them to clarify. But if someone is so silly as to not shop around for a comparative price and ends up buying an overpriced article, stiff bickies. Its not hard to do a google search or just hop on a retailers site.

Fair to all
If someone has something advertised at exorbitant prices its only fair to notify all reading it not just the person submitting it because its in his interest to get as much as he can for it. More often than not, he already knows its over priced before putting it up and if someone doesn't do their homework before agreeing to buy it will get ripped off, thats not what this site is all about.

I think carnarvoite said it
I think carnarvoite said it in a nutshell we are all on the site to help each other good or bad with our comments but one thing that does shit me is fly by nighters people that only visit this site to off load their second hand gear and it seems that fishwrecked is getting more and more lately.
But if somone does say something that is wrong or puts something thats over priced I will bite and advise if they take offense well harden up princess. We all own different gear some cheap gear some expensive gear we buy what we can afford but to over rate or over price something then your asking for it.

Sorry, but
Sorry but I disagree. Just because you think its not a fair price does that give you the right to stuff up their ad?
Individuals need to take responsibility. The seller can ask whatever price they like. If you dont like the price then offer less or don't buy it.
As for "well harden up princess", that's a pretty crap attitude. Refer to my original post...bad manners.

I partially agree also. Its one thing if an established member overprices some gear, but if a first time poster does it then its not a bad thing for them to know that its being watched, in a polite way of course

Actually I like the ones
Actually I like the ones that put higher prices, gives me a friggin chance to buy something off here. As I don't have time to surf the net at work, when I get home all the stuff with great prices are gone. I've bought stuff from forum members while only saving very little amount, but a saving is still a saving.
so please don't knock people on the buy and sell forum as it may deter people from advertising here if you aren't interested in buying.
Generally if people aren't enquiring about the product, eventually they would drop the price themselves until it gets sold. So by advertising it too cheap you are actually ripping yourself off as there may be buyers out there that might be willing to buy it at better prices, that can't be looking at this forum 24 hours a day.
so don't let your bad manners ruin it for people like me.
cheers

Wow this post has had a polarising effect on members comments.
Personally, I would have thought that the buyer should be aware of what constitutes good value before putting their hard earned bucks up front.
However I am with Bradz, courtesy costs nothing and if you want to comment about something that you disagree with then at least try to do it politely.

If a used item's price is
If a used item's price is ridiculous, I think the most courteous thing to do would be send a PM before posting.
That said, there seem to be plenty of people who either think their used stuff is gold plated or are hoping to snag some unsuspecting buyer who doesn't know better--pretty uncool. Personally, I do appreciate the posts when people point out that the same item can be bought new for basically the same money. Maybe it's because I'm still a n00b, but I find that it's actually pretty helpful information. If posting, stick to the facts, be polite, and people can make their own decisions.

it will sell. I dont mind members highlighting an inflated deal and reminding sellers to sharpen thier pencil.

buy sell
I don't look at the buy sell forum very often because I don't buy and sell stuff from here. I usually let my sponsors contact me if there is an issue with commercial selling.
If you guys have an issue or concern, PM me, email me:
I can't monitor everything on this site and I do have a few moderators on board but they also have a tonne of content to look at these days. If you've got an issue, then let me know and I'll look into it. The buy/sell side of this forum is just becoming one big hassle I could do without at the rate things are going.

Im a noob here and was looking for some new gear myself...NOT new to fishing and the real world of what gear costs though.
After looking at some of the gear in For Sale section I was INITIALLY very put off by the site in general. (I now realize it was just a couple of posts and that the ppl were generally not trying to rip ppl off but probably just not sure of what second hand gear is really worth)
I agree that bad manners and curt replys are not appropriate but if this site really is about helping the majority learn more, get good deals and have a better fishing experience in general then a secretive PM may not be the way. Let all know the correct info !
sure sometimes it's hard to say what is a realistic price but lately I have definitly seen things here second hand for more than what I have paid new (with a 10 year warrenty) from a retail outlet in perth.

As far as I can see the
As far as I can see the "we're all here to help each other and want to stop people being ripped off" is a transparent rationalisation of behaviour that is nothing more than tearing other people down by ripping on their for sale ads. The market will tell people what the price is, and things are worth what people are prepared to pay anyway. As for "young-people-who-might-be-impulsive-and-I-just-want-to-help" (seriously, what a load of steaming Sh1t) if they haven't got cash to throw do you really think they're so stupid that they're not looking for the best deal here, on eBay and in shops? That attitude is just plain insulting. Do people here seriously expect their "young bloke" to have 25 people looking out for him the rest of his life? Getting ripped off over a fishing reel is a very very cheap lesson. Do we have to have daddy holding our little hand all the time, can we? And if people really do want to "help", why be rude about it (which is what proves that they don't care and just want to have some fun being an a$$hole).
