Hi guys ,
I am in the process of getting a repower on my 5mt quintrex millennium
I am looking at a 130 yammy 4 stroke I no it's abit of an overkill but would this still work ok for the specs of my boat... as I currently running a 70 hp short leg ..
I am going too raise and beef up the transom as this motor is a long leg
my question is ..
- will the boat plain ok or will the nose be out of the water at all times not allowing the boat too plain? It's only 50kg heavier then the original motor..
thanks any info will be appreciated

That's a massive motor for that size boat, I've got a 540 Coastrunner with 90 Suzi and it's plenty of grunt. Why so big?

Definitely overkill
Seems to me something in the 70- 90HP would be a better fit for normal uses. I don't think the ride is good enough to enjoy going faster than a 90 would push it in any sort of sea. The 130 also likely outside the boat's HP rating, plus too heavy and more expensive.

Would definitely be looking
Would definitely be looking at the specs. Light weight Ali boats don't need massive hp to get up and boogie. 90 would be more than ample and better economy

Thanks for the feed back lads , I've bit the bullet and putting a 130 saltwater series on as I got the motor at a good price , I'll let you know the outcome after a water test next week / seat belts are fitted lol

I jumped up from 115hp to 135hp on my 5.7m glass boat, think that was close to 50kg difference also.
Pending prop it it will make it feel heavier down low, mine is a bit slow out of the box but once on a plane and trimmed its fine.
I've only had it at WOT the once....4000rpms is max needed, plenty plus sweat spot for fuel economy.

If she is sitting with stern too low /bow up at speed you could
try running a four blade prop as these provide extra stern lift at speed. Or add trim tabs and adjust them to the boats behaviour. (im thinking trim tabs may be best of the two options) I know youve said youve committed to the 130 yammie its just that you might find it hard to get boat insurance if boat hull horsepower has been exceeded cheers

motor
great choice you dont have to run at full throttle, cruising at mid range will save you heaps of petrol with plenty in reserve if ever needed.

motor
Great choice you will only need mid range revs will save you heaps in petrol usage with plenty of reseve power if ever needed, your motor will last longer and will have a lower noise level.
