Knot for light braid

Hey guys, im running sufix matrix pro 8lb on my stradic 2500 and im loving it - rediculously thin compared to other brands ive seen/used.

problem which is anoying the hell outa me tho, the knot strength is pretty rubbish when tying on a swivel. im losing rigs and good fish

Ive been using the six turn diego jam which is awesome on mono or my old fireline but doesnt seem to be working well for the super thin braid. link to the knot below

Can anyone who fishes with light braid recommend one for me?

Cheers and tight lines fellas

 Three suggestions:

1. Tie a Bimini twist and then cats paw the swivel on using the loop

2. Bimini again by instead of a cats paw try a Palomar knot.

3. Don't use a swivel if you don't need one. Do a Bimini twist and tie the leader straight to the looped braid via something like a Yucatan knot.

hope these help.

PT, i think if you double up

Sun, 2013-04-14 20:39

PT, i think if you double up the braid it might be ok but i always tie braid to mono and mono to swivels or lures for that same reason. it only needs to be a foot or so of mono but it helps.

I use back to back uni braid

Sun, 2013-04-14 21:15

I use back to back uni braid to leader on my light stuff and heavier stuff 20lb up I tie a 70 plus turn bimini in my mainline and gt knot to leader, then just tie blood knots with my leader to clip etc...

My mate did some line break

Tue, 2013-04-16 10:20

My mate did some line break testing on 15kg, upward of 70 turns on 30lb plus provided better 'close to line rating breakages' so I just do that many

i reckon tieing to a mono

i reckon tieing to a mono leader is your best bet, using a bimini to albright or preferably a gt knot because it will have more shock resistance vs tied straight to a swivel when that croaker jumps on. But doing something as simple as tieing a uni knot using a double- it doesnt even need to be a tied double just the line folded over- will improve results

Back to back uni can be

Mon, 2013-04-15 08:38

Back to back uni can be unreliable on thin braid, not a fan.

Best knot is FG, hardto do on thin braid and best to practice on PE8 till you get the hang of it, but I do all my braikd to mono leaders with FG down to PE 0.8. Best alternative is a bimini to GT.

Try a back to back uni, but

Try a back to back uni, but double the braid over on itself before you tie it.. to your mono leader that is (not your swivel)

Best ive found so far for 6lb

 People like to

Mon, 2013-04-15 13:18

People like to over-complicate things for no good reason. The good old half blood knot is the best knot to tie any braid to a swivel, hook or whatever. Use 8 or 9 turns instead of the 4 you would use in mono. Tying direct to a swivel makes life much easier if you are bait fishing but is not the best way to go if you are lure fishing. If you are lure fishing use a 9 turn improved Albright knot to tie to your flouro/mono leader. I've been using these knots in braid from 2lb to 50lb for years & it's extremely rare for me to suffer knot failure.

Uni to uni knot but double

Mon, 2013-04-15 19:54

Uni to uni knot but double the braid.  This knot (although not perfect) has never failed me.  I use it on my heavy outfits, with 30lb braid and 40lb leader I've pulled in some good sharks.  I very rarely use a swivel, I may be wrong, but I feel the more parts and knots in a rig, the higher the chance of something failing.

I use a slim beauty for

Tue, 2013-04-16 08:36

I use a slim beauty for anything upto 50lb leader, easy to do and I've never had problems with it. I usually have my leader the length of my for plus about a foot. That way casting your holding the mono/fluoro(even better for surf casting heavy sinkers, don't cut your fingers) slides through the guides no probs.

Leader

Tie the allbright knot to attach leader line, this should stop the bust offs.
