Heaps out there. It's my main fishing ground. Go between 15-20m on some good structure, burley up and you'll be on. Anything from the usual wrasse and leather jacket to blackarse, dhus, pinkies, heaps of skippy, sambos. The list is almost endless. In summer you can troll for mackies and tuna.

4.6m is plenty! That depth
4.6m is plenty! That depth is only a few hundred meters past the island. Head out, then turn north till you find a good lump on your sounder. I'd recommend a reef anchor too.

I always launch at Hillarys.
I always launch at Hillarys. I have a 4.5 and the furthest I have gone out is to 20-23m drifting for a feed of whiting and some trolling. Plenty to catch inshore from that tho, target your species. I go for Dhus and Pinks pre sunrise, burley up on suitable ground, Iv gotten size pinks about 1 km offshore, well within the 3 mile, watching boats fly past me heading out on sunrise. Usually head down to the 3 mile off scarborough tho for pre sunrise pinks and dhus. Pelagics over summer on the 3 mile, bonito, kings, tuna and macks, although Im yet to have too much success with these being my first 12 months fishing the area and didnt hit it hard over summer. This time of year is good tho, less chaos at the ramp nice light wind days and other species coming in close(skippy, snapper, sambos and squid) For some fun on the sambos (they will turn up on your skippy session and smoke you after you hook a skippy lol), just burley up a lump, catch skippy on placcys (fun too) and keep a heavy rod handy with a 10 circle, attach a live skippy when the sambos turn up and hold on! Flatties, KGs, Tailor, Squid are accessible very close to the marina. I never come home without a feed. Cya out there!

Never used 10/0 hooks in
Never used 10/0 hooks in close. Usually 5/0 is as big as I go. Might give it a shot.
I agree, the reef around Scarbs is good. Hale rd reef system, even the centaur reef south marker provides good fish.

I match the hook size to the bait. A 5/0 wouldnt even stick out of a 30cm skippys back lol. Sambos swallow them sideways. I dont actually know if they are exactly 10/0, just the biggest hooks in my box and the gape suits the witdth of the fishes back. Big bait, big fish!

Well I hadnt either, but when your catchin them and you see big sambos smashin them before you get it to the boat, well its common sense to put one back witha hook in it, good fun if you like your arms stretched. My mate trolls live tailor and skippy on downriggers out at the gemini wreck for the big daddys, and trolls cams and these sambos seriously swallow them sideways, they are pigs!

Weve done heaps of diving
Weve done heaps of diving out from Hilary's over the last few years in the 8 to 15 m range, always see plenty of sambos skipy and black ass, got a few good dhus to, so yea defiantly worth a fish
