It is approximately 80nm.

You have to steer out a bit on the first leg up to Quobba to stay clear of Fitzroy and Darwin reefs but after that its clear running until you get off Gnaraloo bay for the run in

I once thought about launching at coral bay and driving from there. Maybe that could be an option

who's talking 3.5ton?

I would be heading down from coral bay with that or if you dont have the time just drive slower - drink 10 turkeys instead of 5!

You mus be going different times than me

Sat, 2013-02-16 19:31

First year I went yeh I would agree the tracknwas not as bad as everyone made out to it be.
But after three years doing the track it has taken iits toll on boat and trailer the last two years the track has been shit at the times I went.so having a new boat and trailer don't really want to tow it in to Gnaraloo this is why I have asked the question .
Drive slow fast still breaks shit.

Coral bay to Gnaraloo

At a rough guess I'd say about 50nm but that makes about an extra 400km to drive up there instead of launching in Carnarvon and thats hoping you leave the vehicle at Coral Bay and not have to drive all the way back down then up to Gnaraloo because the only ones the gate is opened for is the army when they go playong games up there.

 Plan2nav had 26 miles

Plan2nav had 26 miles between the mouth of Gascoyne to Point Quobba as the crow fly's but there are a couple of reefs that you would need to go around.

310 Deg

Without going to the trouble of pulling the chart out I'm pretty sure you head on 310 once you are clear of the river mouth/ jetty until you can see Cuvier should be due west of Quobba light, then head straight for it.

Beware of southerlies

Sun, 2013-02-17 18:33

Keep an eye on the weather when its time to return because bashing in to southerlies for the trip back isn't one of my favourite experiences.

Sun, 2013-02-17 18:08

Track was so rough towards the station last year a union on my steering arm came loose pissing out all the steering fluid. Pain in the arse. Let us know how you go Colin. I'll be back up there next year.
