In my opinion...
...good 'ol Rexie, Robson and Ryan. Rex was entertaining AND informative, and while the bulk of his shows were based over east, he did travel the length and breadth of the country at least as much as any of the more recent Vic/NSW guys do now. He taught us about fishing and made us laugh while doing it. He sold/sold/sold, but no more than anyone else.
Robson is very entertaining. Not much in the way of actually teaching people tips/techniques/etc, but the kind of show even non-fishos enjoy. He's very quick to take the piss out of himself and others, and the people he meets and exotic places he goes (Siberia this Sunday!) add a dimension that local presenters struggle to equal.
Ryan was a shining beacon of hope in a dark sea of boofhead FWA presenters. His local knowledge (and even NOT so local knowledge) and ability to pass it on to viewers was second to none. He won't actually have anyone rolling in the aisles with laughter but the information he provides is entertainment in itself.
Paul Worsteling: Amusing/knowledgable, but no more closeups of his face. He actually has fangs like a vampire.
Jason Kennedy: "Stop the bus" and "Gone like last week's pay" were funny at first, now just annoying. And too many "snapper on softies" episodes!
Matt Watson: Obnoxious little Kiwi with small-man-syndrome. The fishing version of Troy Dann.
Dave "Daiwa Dork" Butfield: His primary function appears to be selling the most expensive gear...seldom uses anything other than Certates/Saltigas. Plus I've seen him literally push his own kid out of the way to catch a fish. On national TV. Nice.
FWA crew(besides Ryan): Nick, informative but boring. Lisa, boring. Jacko, don't get me started. Steve C, giggling schoolgirl. That pommie fellow they had early on, Marshie was it? He was pretty good, from memory.
A special mention goes to Dave (barefoot adventurer) Hodge. Apart from offering advice on fishing, he dishes out a lot of tips regarding 4wd, camping and a lot of the stuff that goes with fishing. His attention to detail is enlightening without being boring. And he tries to put himself in the shoes of the viewer (haha it's a joke, get it? 'Cause he's barefoot!) anticipating what difficulties/problems they might have, and how to sort it all out.

Yeah always pretty partial to Ryan.
As for Nick, when you're co-hosting with whacko jacko, you really have to play the straight man in the longer history of double acts. I thought he always did well, and good on him for putting up with it for so long.

GREAT SUMMARY AUSLOBSTER
I agree completely with your summary of what's on offer (nothing to get too exited about)?
Although, I'll always go out of my way to catch Ryan whenever he's on - much prefer his solo performances (although I put up with Lisa - painful - to checkout what Ryan is doing)!

+1 for Malcolm
True Aussie legend, watched "in search of the big Barra" only yesterday along with 15 episodes of "in the bush with Malcolm Douglas" researching for a journey I am planning. There seems to be gaping hole left in the industry, i could be looking for a presenter for a project, anyone keen?

Malcolm still holds the Australian rating record for an Australian TV documentary......"across the top" which is an awesome achievment for a debut film using (now) old cameras and equipment and being an indipendent producer....RIP Mal, wish I had the talent to fill your shoes but rest assured I will be following your footprints.

Dunno if i qualify for the whippersnapper category but as a kid i loved watching malcom douglas on the old "world around us" show i think it was. Even got my copy of across the top signed by him a few years ago. Have bought bucket loads of his docs of that site, i think you can get the full collection at a discounted price.
Not a fishing show but I was always into les hiddins aswel, used to sit down with the old man when ever these guys were on the telly

Rex
As Gastronomic says, Rex in his earliest shows before they started shoving their products down our throats to the point of not even bothering to look at them now because they are just 20 minutes of advert and 2 minutes of stuff thats been covered by someone else previously

I would have to say one of my most favourites would have to have been Neil Tedesco from the earlier seasons of adventure bound.
He had this vibe about his fishing that i could relate to and without pushing products.
I grew up watching rex hunt and old malcolm douglas film and still find myself with a sweet spot for the 2.

Neil from adventure bound is probably the best I've seen, but I rate steve starling as one of the best and most knowledgable fishermen ever. Before he was on rex's show he was behind the scenes doing the research

Neil Tedesco
By far my favourite was Neil Tedesco from Adeventure Bound, such a tragic loss to fishing that his life was cut so short. I have all the AB dvds he was in and I still love watching them.
Adventure Bound as a whole has pretty good presenters, very informative and never over the top. Scott Gray, Andrew Clarke and now Lee Reyner still make for the best fishing show/dvds around in my opinion.
Malcom Douglas deserves special mention as well
I was looking into buying a Dave Butfield dvd soonish, is it worth it or not?

I have seen AB at some store but im about the order the entire series from the website. The show on a whole is awesome.
Not a presenter but has a few segments in Fishing DVD - Jason wilhelm, he gets the job done and i enjoy watching him.
Im happy watching any fishing program as long as the host knows what he/she is talking about.

You wont be dissapointed
You wont be dissapointed mate, got all the AB dvds and they take pride of place in my TV cabinet. They rarely go anywhere that the normal punter cant get to as well which is good. My last rip to broome was planned around there Broome eps, really good guys to deal with as well. Got lots of advice through email from them for the trip too.

robson green is different to
robson green is different to the rest, its more us watching him learn apposed to a presenter talking to us. robson is good in small doses, too much and he can become annoying. his show is also alot more scenic then others, which makes it appealing to the non-fishing kind aswell

His only saving grace is his humility and ability to take the piss out of himself. More entertaining then informative. It's nice to see a tv presenter with a worse technique then me though. He manages to drop a high % of fish

Yeh lol, I guess thats why he is so happy when he finally gets one. The funniest episode was the one in spain with huge catfish and he begs the guide to stop catching them because he can't stand up to reel it in.

Malcolm Douglas
and Rexie baby are the only two I really enjoyed, the rest of all the fishing shows all they want to do is talk, shove their face in the camera or sponsors products minus the actual fishing, can't be bothered with them.
Do love Robson Greene think he is also fantastic and quite funny, pity some of our local fishing shows didn't have his humour and catch a fish as well without 20minutes of fishing equipment shoved in your face and 10 minutes of actual fishing.

ET, Lee Rayner, Matt Watson,
ET, Lee Rayner, Matt Watson, Nick and Ryan I all watch happily.
Paul Worsteling is just plain annoying, and even worse with his wife on the show, but he gives a few tips and seems to be able to catch fish.
Robson Green is good to watch, and I always look forward to watching his shows and enlightens me on abnormal forms of fishing, coupled with his humour makes this show highly entertaining IMO.

i grew up with rex hunt and starlo and buschy. I did have alot of steve starlings fishing australia books he put out as a series years and years ago.
I like the early seasons of Fishing WA but now i dont..
Paul from Ifish is good but i do hate the pushing of products and when you look at these items. it can easily top a thousand bucks.... A shimano fireblood come on seriously the average punter would be flat out with a seinna or a stella......
I have the squidgy fish dvd range and there are some good tips you got to watch carefully and mind the bullshit of the constant product pushing of brand new items coming along...
Which reminds me i have 190mm squidgy pilly flickbaits on order for over 3 months....

Dry
Top series and they can be verrry dry with some of their humour.
Was involved with an episode with Buschy and Starlo at Hamelin bay years back, was on a salmon team and we did the spotting fish for them. [AND got thanked for our help on the show].
Buschy was crippled with arthritis and in pain , though it was a freezing cold shit of a day he was still fishing even after the camera work had finished, they were top people to work with and I take my hat off to them.

A lot of the presenters mentioned are good to watch
But I have to admit I did enjoy the sense of humour (and the accent) of Marshie in FWA years ago. His cheating fishing for herring in esperance when he was stirring Steve Correia even though I am sure it was a setup was just plain fun. I also took inspiration from him as a champion UK fly fisher and took up the art of waiving the wand.
Honorable mention to Paul Worsteling and Lee Rainer always bantering at each other. I think that mixing fishing and laughter is a great way to start with a fishing show.
I always liked Michael Guest, but thats probably because he is a nice guy that I know from Rally Oz organising days. He should stop selling stuff and concentrate on either rallying or fishing. Bloody good at both.

There was a thread exactly the same as this last year, but anyway:
Ryan Thipthorp, Ian Marshall, Rex Hunt, Malcom Douglas and Steve Starling. In that order.
Other ones I dont mind watching are Jermey Wade and Robson Green.
Most of the others arent that great, and talk way to much crap about their gear the whole time instead of actually fishing.
