Bad experience with Popular brand Leader
Submitted by parksey on Thu, 2013-05-23 16:09
G'day all,
Wanted to share a bad experience I had with a popular leader line I purchased.
short story is bought line tied knot and noticed small knicks in line . I pulled one of the knick and the line shredded.
I Emailed manufacturer and they requested the line back which cost me 12 bucks, I received 2 replacements and two lollies!!! (WTF????)
I though I would let them know I was a bit anoyed and I would have liked the 12 buck back not two lollies. They did not even supply and reply or explanation about the line, so I emailed and got to the head man. They basically shrugged me off!!!
Check out the pictures I hadnt even finished the knot when I noticed the problem!!!

Mate I would be happy with that response
Might just be one bad "fault". Most likely only in one part of the line. When this or something similar happens contact the manufactorer and they usually respond by helping you out. Getting 2 (and 2 lollies too boot) I would have been happy. And Black Magic is a good leader and I have never had a problem with it.
IMO you now have 2 good packs of Fluoro leader.
I have every now and then bought a beer carton and one of the cans is empty. No noticeable holes and not cracked. Took the whole carton with offending can back, the shop vontacted the distributor or manafacturer and I walked out with 2 brand new cartons (but no lollies). I was happy as with the outcome.

Bad section of leader
Must have been a bad section of leader. I only use black magic mono and fluorocarbon and never had any issues with it

It was a bad lot, you got a 2 for 1 replacement... and?
Unless you specifically asked for your money back and NOT a replacement, i don't see the problem

Not two
Hey guys i bought two and they only replaced the two, i had and 60 lbs and 40 lbs spool and that is all i got back , oh and the lollies.
I must admit when i pulled more of the spool it got better but i wasnt gonna chance it cause we all know whats happens when you think it will be ok...
I will stick to my Varivas bit more dollars but trustworthy.
I bought it from Geraldton BCF Scubafish, I only bought it as spare for my trip to the islands, lucky the deckie didnt mind me borrowing his line.

Now that its explained better
I wouldn't be happy. And as us customers never seem to complain they all think they are on a good thing.
I say that you must complain about this to tell them something aint right. Then wait for the response. Only takes an email or call.
I am sure that you will be surprised at the response (Usually) - but you have to nag them.

Good heads up
Disappointing effort from the manufacturer. I think you have every right to be peeved. A professional outfit would have sent a prepaid pack to you to fwd the items to them, so you weren't out of pocket.
Then once they determined it was there lack of quality control that created the issue, would have replaced the items with on spec items, & thrown in a couple of sweeteners that weren't literally sweets. Poor form from Black Magic. Thanks for sharing your experience.

It's a bloody shame as I've always liked their product. Good feedback and customer service are a priority in the industry and they are obviously lacking this. You should now let them know they are getting a whole heap of negative publicity on this forum. Piss poor response from them either way in my opinion.

Send them a link to this post
they may not appreciate the negative comments.
If you are out of pocket they should at the very least reimburse you for you any additional costs you have incurred over and above the original purchase price.
I think I would have firstly approached BCF though.

Unfortunatley had no time...
We got back to the wharf and set for home no time to go to the BCF up there, the boy were all toey...
I was wanting to let the Manufacturer know just in case there is or was a faulty batch. If I had lost a fish due to a problem with there line I would be twice as dark on them. I only posted to let others be cautious and feedback, not to bad mouth them.
I will let sleeping dogs lye, I have learnt my lesson and I only bought it as a spare just in case...
Now I know it isn't even worthy of being a spare in my tackle box.

Ahh, I see what you mean now.
Ahh, I see what you mean now. Yeh thats pretty poor form, a stuff around for you plus extra $12 out of pocket, and no apology/explanation etc. I bet you won't be buying their stuff ever again

Had a similar problem
I had a similar problem with warranty etc and had to call consumer affairs, Bcf are the ones who have to replace it not black magic because they are who you bought it from, they always try and point you at the manufacturer but they are legally required to replace it regardless of the 'store policy' or whatever other crap they feed you.

With such an obvious fault I would have replaced it for him straight up at the BCF where I work.

I always found their fluorocarbon to be too stiff which causes knot slips anyway
