Used to catch good snapper off there years ago during and after a good North Westerly blow.
Found the secret was to not cast out too far as the snapper were right on the rock wall but keep your rod in your hands the whole time cos when the bite happened you had to stop them breaking you off in the rocks.
Need heavy gear as well.
Can you still get out there? Used to drive on and fish the 1st rock groyne to the left about 50 metres along. The one that faces out to Garden Island if that makes sense?
