Are they biting at Little Island??

Hi Guys,

Plan to fish at Little Island" off Hilarys this Thursday for herring and gardies.

Have the fish been around lately?

last time I went (about 6 months ago) the gardies were in BIG numbers but weren't biting - any suggestions?

Cheers

just use burley and they will come

then try a few things, few baits and use small hooks.

keep small amounts of burley up often

did well on herring on Monday avo, bit of burley as the sun set and once they were fired up it was a herring a cast. Beforehand also got a five squid in an hour of drifting north over the weed. while squiding also had a bust up in five meters over the weed near the island, watched a small just legal-ish mackie launching 4 foot out of the water chasing herring... something you dont see every day inside the reef.

 Not sure about herring but

Not sure about herring but plenty of garfish.

My setup:
- Tiny-small long shank hook(cant remember exact size)
- 70cm of line from the hook to a pencil float
- Maggots or small pieces of prawn rolled in bread crumbs that is mixed with fish oil
- Anything less than 15lbs of line is fine

Had a show on this week on how to target gardies. Had pretty much the same setup as br3nno stated.

we have been going

Tue, 2013-02-19 18:21

to the first reef just out from mindarie marina.

i have been using a tiny running ball sinker right to the hook(size 00 i  think.just enough to cast 5-10 metres)

small bit of prawn on a small hook and a little ball of burley thrown in every now and then and we have been

cleaning up on herring with odd gardie and big skippy.haven`t missed yet with 5 trips in the last 2 weeks.
