Quick report on my first trip to the monties.  We planned a 7 day stay on  the islands which we delayed due to weather. We did most the drive the first day the stoped and fuled up at nanyatrra fule station 160 km from the fortescu turn-off.  We had 600lt of fule alot of weight with all the camping gear. The corrugations weren'tto bad on the fortescu rd, but the red dust covered everything! Crossedthe dry river made it to the ramp half tide, just enough to get the 3 boats in. Crossed the river mouth 0.7m water left. The trip over was glamour glass. 2hrs and we werethere.  We snagged home lagoon.  Big effortseting up and putting the boats on moorings.  Hit the water the next day and the fish were on. Everyone caught, big trout a few reds, Rankins mackerel everywhere.  Sharks got their share. We only fished plastics and cheap jigs. The place lives up to all expectations! Next few days was rinse and repeated.  We did get some strong easterly winds, we fish the inshore protected areas. We did alot of exploring  caught some decent fish but no GT's.  One trip off the north end was crazy, found a school of fish in 25m down go the jigs double hookups,  massive fish. Wrestled the two monsters up, turned out to be XXXOS Chinaman  with the whole school following.  Must of be hundreds,  mixed in with trout and others. The two Chinaman measured 97cm and 90cm. ( northern Samson fish). We released the and caught and released for an hour from 25m to 7m . One fish came up and the others would be trying to pull the jigs out fo its mouth including a massive trout that made the Chinaman look small.  Not one lost to a shark. We tried waitng for a weather window to get home, but you cant wait forever,. We took on a North easterly at about 20 knts. Ruff as shit trip home 3.5 hrs. But arrived safe on high tide. Boat packed down and a big 2 day drive home  dodging the crazy traffic heading north for school holidays.  Sorry about only one photo cant seem to post more then one.. bugger.
