Turtle Bay disappointment
Was up at Denham earlier this year for the first time and one of the days was glassy so decided to head to Turtle Bay, north of Dirk Hartog. After reading many posts it seamed the fishing there was ment to be good. We had no luck! Within the bay itself was bone dry apart from the odd NW blowie. Luckily we headed towards Dampier Reef and managed to find schools of red throat, odd spango and some small cods so we managed a feed but was somewhat disapointed.
Has anyone had much luck in close at Turtle Bay? Maybe I should have put more time in but it was such a trek from the ramp and after an hour or so of nothing I decided change locations.
I am taking the family there next year and wondering if its worth making the trek back up that way or just head towards steep point and the west side of DHI. I have never fished the west side of DHI and would like to pop cherry fishing out there.

Don't know how close you were but we have fished up there out from the turtle bay area. We were a fair way off the bay and just looked around for fish and any bit of structure. Always came in with a good haul but it is a long way to go

Just out of interest, how
Just out of interest, how long did it take you to get up to Dampier reef. I have been keen to fish there but have never made it that far yet. I didn't fish turtle bay, but fished inwards and level with it, few snapper and cod, but sharks were a nightmare!

Hi Sea Goat, from Denham to
Hi Sea Goat, from Denham to Turtle Bay was about 70km, then about another 15km or so to Dampier reef. I was sitting on about 25-28 knotts in my 5.2m kevlacat. From memory it might have been about 1.45 hours each way? Weather was glassy so was an easy trip luckily. Was a long way this is why next time I might just try the west side of DHI.

Turtle Bay
Fished there and caught snapper, spanish flag and spango's, current was ripping through, sharks followed us everywhere. West of DHI in 80m there were plenty of fish.

We anchored in Turtle bay in 2002 on the way back from Exmouth to shelter from 25-30 knot south south easterly. The only thing we got was a NW blowie.
It stunk out my vomit spot.
