getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

AFAIK no outboard has an alarm for a gearbox problem so its unlikely to be GB unless there is 2 unrelated probs?

no big deal if leg oil leaking it's just done a seal.did mine a couple of months ago.Get it done as soon as you can so it dosent sit empty for to long.
The beeping is a alarm for low oil ,. over rev, over heat some thing along those lines.Just check all those things and think if you did any thing different that day.If it has a computer get a diagnostic on it.
Just some thought's

4 bangers are the
go Caza .I have two merc 4 bangers 02, were on the boat when i bought it.Found out later that yammy use to supply merc around that time, they just have merc bottom end.happy with them they run good.If you buy a new 4 stroke i dont recon you can go wrong with any of the jap motor they have been doing it a long time.
Tomcat could be on to it ,if it is a fairly old motor wiring can corrode over time shorting wires out or making alarm come on with out need.
Good luck with it mate.
