That's never good
I hope he manages to return.
A bit of a concern the number of missing persons / lost at sea reports of late. I hope better news is heard on the matter throughout the day

The boat size, going solo,
The boat size, going solo, location, distance out and time of fishing matched my mate perfectly. Just rang and he's snug in his bed. Here's hoping old mate just had an electrical failure and is bobbing in the ocean somewhere.

Sea rescue log in?
Heres hoping the search is successful.
Perhaps too early to be sure but the way the news report reads it seems there was no log-in with a sea rescue group.

The Dornier out there has just turned to the north before finishing his run south, hopefully they've found something.

Alot of people looking
We launched from two rocks this morning and could see the search parties all over the place.
They expected him to drift north towards moore river but the drift was actually going the opposite way where we were.
Hopefully they find him pronto.

Have you relayed that info
Have you relayed that info to water police about the drift? That makes a difference to seach areas. They may appreciate the info about direction and rate.

Wind and current works
Wind and current works differently depending on the size of the object. Wind will affect a boat, but current will affect the drift of a person in the water (no windage).

Water police
once water police are called they instantly put all of the variables into their computer system which has all of the currents , wind and drift patterns of different size boats then with a lot of margin they call upon the VMR groups to search those many square kms , biggest questions is where is the start point , logging on and rough directions make VMR groups life one step easier , let hope there a good outcome with this search

I know. I used to work
I know. I used to work there. In my day we had to manually enter the variables like wind direction and speed. Current direction and speed. Wind was always a bit easier to know because you would at least have forecasted conditions. Currents was always a bit of an unknown so any intel you could get was helpful. They may have access to much more reliable data now, i dont know.

Noticed the wash from
Noticed the wash from Mewstone heading in a south westerly direction on Wednesday evening, right into the breeze. I know that the swan 'venting' due to low tide may influence though i agree with a bit of water moving south. It was fast enough that when i put the boat into neutral, even with the seabreeze blowing, we didnt move,

Fingers crossed
I hope the search turns up something tomorrow, bit strange no EPIRB set of or flares sighted makes you think that what ever has happened has happened with no warning signs of impending danger.

Anything could have happend
Few whales around .?? Must admit I have started logging on again. Always been memb of rocko sea rescue. But never really logged on . It's cheap . Good back up . You can always extend time or change location . At least if misshap does happen search would start sooner and narrow location down. Hope he his found safe.

Yep- Been doing the same
Yep- Been doing the same Johnny. Logged on/off both times this week.
Also purchased the PLB(as a back up to the Epirb) which is now on me all the time.
Very sad indeed with all these Fisherman missing from boating incidents- after my mishap last year behind Garden Island,I always have second thoughts with some of the areas that I fish.

One dreadful scenario to consider
The search area for the boat may have to be well west of where they are looking. if he was fishing by himself, it is possible that he had an autopilot and either 1) left the wheel to do something and went over the side, or 2) he had a medical episode with the boat continuing on the set course. Either of these scemarios would even be possible with a NFB helm like mine--boat won't run on the same course forever, but it will run more or less straight. Fuel could see the boat run out 100 miles or considrably more beyond his target.

yeh agree ranmar fishing
yeh agree ranmar
fishing solo with no epirb set of ,
most likly scenario is he has some how unexpectadly & quickly gone ever the side into the water with or without the boat being under power and not beena able to get back in or activate any safety devices
still a chance they may find him or the boat , but its not looking good
has always been one of my concerns as to how to prevent such a scenario as i have fished solo very often

I fish solo but wear my life
I fish solo but wear my life jacket all times and also have a waterproof waist bag on that has my epirb/handheld vhf/mobile in it, so if I go over the side without safety gear I have means of alerting sea rescue.
hope they'd find him safe/well

Good setup
Anything can happen whilst out there. From a catastrophic hull failure to falling overboard, as long as you're concious you've got a chance if you have all the gear as described.

Plb has to go back through
Plb has to go back through rcc in Canberra. Vhf is direct. Perfect for directing a boat the last 500m or so from your last broadcast position.
Radio course teaches the process quite well.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

There is already a means at hand
That kill switch with the lanyard attached which we all have on our control boxes? That's what it's for, so, technically, if you yank on that by any means, ie, falling over, engine will cut out. Of course you may still have a fair swim ahead of you to catch it, if it's drifting at a good rate

Found
Just hear they found a body on the beach near Alkimos. Can't confirm it but a chopper was seen there with divers, police etc.
Anyone hears anything would be good but I hope its not for that reason. Fingers crossed.
Cheers & Stay safe

Channel 7 chopper has headed up there and put down someplace, not much else seems to be happening. The chopper from Pearce has gone back.

Did anyone see Rohan out on
Did anyone see Rohan out on his boat the day he went missing? He was fishing about 10kms west of direction bank (I think)? They have only found one piece of debris which is with forensics to determine whether this was likely to be from his esky but otherwise they have no clues as to have what happened. If anyone saw anything at all please let me know. Thank you.

not sure what can be done but
not sure what can be done but just thought I'd pass this on I saw the following post on FB
its on the "Mindarie to Jindalee and Butler to Clarkson all go group"
Hi all, my husband is the missing fisherman who disappeared after an day fishing off Mindarie on the 15th June. I was hoping to ask any residents to please keep an eye out for any debris or items that may wash ashore on beaches around your area. I know there are many beach and ocean lovers around so I just wanted people to be aware if they find anything no matter how insignificant it may seem. Please contact me on FB if you locate anything. Thanks for your help

Heads up members, looking for help
Tragically a lady and wife is seeking F/W members help in order to get some answers to what has happened to her husband. Lets all keep our eyes open for any flotsam/jetsam on the beach or out on the ocean.
