What sort of gear everyone using for big sambos

hey guys

Just curious to what sort of gear people using for jigging-fishing  the barges.... what pound braid, and type of braid , reels , leader etc....I was out at the barges saturday and noticed alot of people getting smoked including myself and 2 others in my boat,we were using what i thought was pretty decent gear 50lb fireline,100lb blackmagic leader and all had decent reel, rod combos

still managed to land quite a few but also lost shitloads of gear great day tho lol

any feedback would be great.

300lb Mono and a winch. LOL

That way you might get the Noahs aswell.

But serious and I am not a Sambo jiggers/catcher you would need quality gear like Saltiga's and Stella's not to get smoked sometime. I dont know how my Saragosa 14000 would stand up to the task, but I am sure my saltist would. PE 6-10 braid with a 100lb leader and a decent jig rod should be fine IMO, but like I said no expert.

It looks like a TLD 25 you have and I would have thought that would have been OK but remember there is other critters down there eating the sambos and the "smoke" might have been from them.

You're encouraged to use 80lb for the sambos, so that they go down frisky, not tired. If you're not tired after that, get another one; rinse, repeat.

PE is a guide to the crossectional area that a line uses. As a rough guide each PE is 10lb, although better lines are better, ie; PE3/40lb, not 30lb.
