mediterranean relative - the most common monkfish.  There are four main types  - from the Mediterranean, Eastern America, Northern Europe and North Sea.

Oz monkfish are more commonly known as Stargazers.  Supposedly taste as good but are caught as a bycatch, so not so commonly seen in shops.

Monk fish alright

Aye it looks like a monkfish alright. My mates back home in Ireland skipper trawlers and catch the north atlantic type, its a prized fish and makes good money.

It super good eating, cut it up into little cubes give it a lite batter and fry! You'd think you we're eating prawn!
