Unreel
Had a horrendous episode of pinging today. Drifted a spot in the 40s off Hillarys today and after the 3rd drift a nice black hulled Haines Hunter called 'Unreel' proceeds to pull up and start drifting at the start of my line.
Bit miffed but I pull back around and we manage to 'share' the drift without getting in each other's way. After another drift I look up to see him anchoring over the ground completely cutting out my drift.
We drove right up over their lines within 10m of their boat with some death metal cranking full volume and proceeded to reef in a nice estuary cod right in front of them to what can only be referred to as a celebration for the ages. Suck it Unreel. I hope they enjoyed their HJs for dinner coz they caught faaaaark all.

just deserts. some people seem to think they have the rights to do what they want. but he obviously doesnt realise most fish out in deeper water are taken on the drift.

Love it
Whilst we don't own any part of the ocean all of us have worked hard and expended a great deal of money on fuel finding productive fishing spots.
The un written rule is first in best dressed has the privilege of conducting drifts over their favourite spot without being interfered with, well that's the way I accept and see things.
For people to do what happened to you is. IMO down right bastardry and arrogant.
Both of which get me bloody angry.
You just don' crash in on their drift it's just common decency not to do it.
However common decency is fast becoming un common I'm afraid

Well put Mega.
Best description I have seen yet , because its usually blokes just saying stay a km away from me or someone saying you dont own
anything , and I can drift 10 metres away from you.
As per usual the best approach is somewhere in the middle .
These twits are in the same ME group . that charge ahead at a merging lane , knowing full well that theres no gap ahead
only to crack the sh@ts when they then try to make a gap and no one lets them in.
Thats not merging , thats arrogant selfish 2018 thinking.

Fortunately, this does not happen that often most respect each other.
Dont you like the ones that deviate on the course drive over your drift and mark the spot on the way past. I see this more often and they can be quite blatent about it, pull up do some sounding and mark the plotter.
Cheers

On the other hand, when I got to my spot in the 50s yesterday there was a boat that looked like it was going to drift right over where I wanted to be. So we went over and asked politely if he minded if we drifted about 30m beside him. With a friendly 'no problems' response there was plenty of room for all. At one point we ended up a bit close to them so we moved off again.
I think a bit of common courtesy goes a long way.

Theories?
Any theories from an experienced waterman on how it managed to take a wrong turn and swim so many miles from home?

Had the exact same thing
I feel your pain JF. Had the exact same thing happen to me not long ago, except he anchored right in front of me on my first drift. It still makes my blood boil. Leo 1 is a wanker and what makes it worse the prick will be hammering the spot to no end.

I usually fish in the 40s-50s
See a boat coming, get off the spot, I've been pinged 40Ks offshore, wankers.
