needs more content.

Sun, 2013-02-17 18:13

the whole show seemed to be just ryan and his mate pumping a fish to the surface.

they should have should a little bit of their trip out there.setting up the jigs, what knots to use.

maybe a screen shot of the sounder so people have an idea of what to look for.jigging tecniques

and what rod and reel combos are good.jmo but i found it very boring and un-informative and

didn`t watch it to the end.

 I thought Ryno was pretty

Sun, 2013-02-17 18:57

I thought Ryno was pretty good considering!

He did show his jigging tecnique, he showed what jigs to use, what assist hooks he uses, how to rig them. He went over the ground to look for, what he looks for on the sounder, and even roughly where he was.

Short of showing the GPS location, Im not sure what more you could have asked for.

Are you sure you didnt turn off too early?

Regards

+1 for the show

Sun, 2013-02-17 19:01

Sat down with a coldie to watch the show and thought it was a pretty good summary! Great tips on keeping the slack to a min when the blueye charge towards the surface. As Subaquatic mentioned - he showed the deep jigs / favourite colours / mentioned weights / owner assist hooks etc - so yeah, apart from showing a screen shot / mentioning the GPS location - unsure how he could have been more informative.

JMO anyways!

Hmmm - I am a great supporter of Ryan

Mon, 2013-02-18 12:13

But launching from Wooodman Point as filmed and then fishing and I quote "in 450 metres north of Hilliaries" - I think not particularly when he said early in the show he was heading offshore of Rotto ........hmmmm - attention to detail in editing ?

And NO I would not expect ANY even rough areas to go searching, I know for sure that Ryan must have put in days not hours finding his spots, untold fuel costs and dont even seek to put in a cost of the hours he has put in pleasurable or not but I did find it a long stretch to believe he motored that far from Woodies

Ryan - any comments as please, feel free to tear me down if I somehow missed something but I did watch it twice so I am confident of what I heard and saw

I launched at Hillary's last

I launched at Hillary's last Week, and fished off Garden Island....OK, so I wouldnt do it regularly, but there are occasional reasons for insanity!

It's on the money

Tue, 2013-02-19 11:43

I did the exact trip a few weeks back with Ryan and Shabba, launched at Woodys at 0730 and we ended up north of Hilliarys fishing that exact spot (with a very similar result - big blue eyes), back at the ramp just after dark. It was a long day but the distance was covered. If Ryan had of gone straight there and back it could easily be done in much less time. Helps when the boat can maintain 30 knots in any conditions.

Believe it!

Switched channels

Mon, 2013-02-18 12:21

I switched channels after about 10 minutes because it was like one big advert for his shop, jigs, reels, rods, blah blah blah and nothing else.

Super Deep Show!!!!

Mon, 2013-02-18 20:13

As for me saying we're going to Rotto yes we did, the Trench is behind Rotto and I was fishing the Trench ie the North wall part which is out from Hilllarys ruffy..... maybe a tad north of it.....near abouts/still the Rotto trench!

I had an option " not to say where I was at all " ...... I choose to give my location and do the right thing (maybe reconsider next time ).......editing wise all correct as I over see all the shows

The ironic thing is we still get told we dont talk about our gear enough?!?!?......tough to keep all happy but we have a very good mix of gear talk, tech talk and fishing hense our ratings are so high!!!!

If you watched to the end there was " plenty of info"......more that what all other shows give out (yes I watch all of them) and yes I filmed alot more stuff (not fish being caught) but alot of stuff was cut out as trying to crame all that stuff into  21 minutes which is a show.......... isnt easy

Thanks to all the positive comments (99%)....much appreciated, the show rated high and was well received so our job was done

Johno, I will save it to thumb drive and leave it at my shop Wednesday so pop in and ask Blake to transfer it to your thumb drive

It shows we are listening and watching closely

Tue, 2013-02-19 06:14

Even my wife questioned your location as we watched the show and have rechecked charts and cannot find any of the canyon "north of Hilliaries" indeed it generally runs due west of Rotto but with a big kink to the SW.

Honestly though I have nothing but admiration for Ryan exploring and then successfully targetting these super deep species - reeling in 450 metres of line is a pain in itself without a blue eye pulling in the opposite direction and wouldn't miss the show for quids whereas the old presenters of the show (pre-Ryan) I would turn off out of principal - they were terrible.

canyon "north of Hilliaries"

I didnt say canyon north of Hillarys Sunshine!!!

I will go through this one more time only....I said;

" the Trench is behind Rotto and I was fishing the Trench ie the North wall part which is out from Hilllarys ruffly..... maybe a tad north of it.....near abouts/still the Rotto trench!"

Series 11 Super Deep show I was told by many people I didnt give a ruff location and it would be appreciated if I did ????

So I thought I'd do the right thing Series 13 and give my "ruff location" despite many friends saying I shouldnt/suprised I did on TV

Next Super Deep show (we start filming soon) I will just launch and say depth (simple) ..........no ruff location help in future

Thanks to the other comments....cheers

Terrific show

Tue, 2013-02-19 06:58

I like to watch pretty well all the fishing shows (except Robson Green) and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed FWA and learned more from Ryan's presentation than any of those other gab fests.  Agree with you, Sunshine.  Well done, Ryan

Pretty hard to cram

Tue, 2013-02-19 12:49

Pretty hard to cram everything in one show, but more Ryan and less Harrry would be my recommendation....haha. Good work Ryan.

Spot on ....ha ha!

Tue, 2013-02-19 14:39

Thanks John, 100% correct re trying to cram in everything........we actually filmed 120 minutes approximately that day so thats like 5-6 TV shows worth but it had to be cut down to 21 minutes!

We had more travelling, underwater footage, jig action underwater footage and more gear talk that wasnt used!!

For a fishing TV show we have a good balance and thats why Fishing WA ratings are very good including the National audience!!

Great Show Ryan.

Wed, 2013-02-20 17:50

Was a very informative show, and some big fish caught which is always good to see. If those who think it was "crap" watched the whole show they probably would have learnt something, think their just jelous.

I would suggest putting together all the footage you took and make a "FWA Super Deep DVD" to explain all the techniques, rigging, outfits ect. :) What do you guys think?

Great work Ryan, once again and the FWA team also.

Cheers,

Pickos

Rottnest Trench

Wed, 2013-02-20 19:36

I dont get a chance to watch Ryan's shows as generally working but managed to see parts of it and thought it was pretty good.  Nice addition offering a rough idea on the grounds.  I see there is some banter about the trench so I i have popped a snapshot of it to show.  its the perth canyon and the area up near Hillary's FAD is the north wall.  A good hunting ground for Marlin but also with the steep drop offs with the contour depths a great place to fish for th ooglies that Ryan seems pretty bloody good at catching.

Ryan you should continue to give the wider public an idea of where you fish as it gives us all an idea where to start and then we learn and refine to find good fish holding grounds.

Cheers

the north wall is a stretch

Fri, 2013-02-22 09:39

the north wall is a stretch of contours that face generally north instead of paralell with the coast as you can see the contours with the southern fads.....fished it pretty hard over the last manth for naddda

The weather really was all

Fri, 2013-02-22 19:33

The weather really was all over the shop, we had a few glass-offs between the changing weather. At one stage the graphite rods were ticking as the storm went past and we could only make 11kn into the weather, but our run in was at 29kn

We got dollies and deep water stuff, we don't really bother with the pics and the shopping lists unless its a pb.
