i wouldn't want to be the deckie on that boat, cleaning that mess up twice a day no thanks! I agree something like that could work if advertised correctly but i'd reckon you'd might do yourself out of business quickly as it wouldn't take long for people to see your spots and catch onto them.

You would still be subject to public liability insurance plus probably need the same skipper qualifications as a fishing charter not to mention the boat would have to be surveyed for commercial use etc.

For sure, but only the 2C ( ... or D or E), I think there was an eastern states charter that just ran a Southwind UB580!

Hi Brucey

I think a squid spot is a little unlike a good ground spot. I think they are like schools of fish and even if they prefer a certain area ie with weeds I never mind telling where the spot is. That is unless I caught them on a good fishing mark like the weekend gone.

I have been to my numero uno spot and missed out, then back to where I think its crap and bagged out on a feed. Never legally bag out, but face it who wants to clean a shit lot of squid.

Im sure that all of the area around garden island and up here the Archi would have squid, so loosing your spots might not be as important as Bernie and his Red spots in Exxy/CB.

If I was a Charter operator I would ask for all electronic gear and I would hold them until the trips end. Working yrs on good spots for clients and then some drongo with a new boat and to lazy goes and pings/pinches your spot would drive me nuts. I dont know how they do it simply put. Havent been on one for yrs.

But all the legal stuff cost heaps and it is a venture to set it up. One of my mates tried it off Lancelin once. Was a Cray boat skipper, had marks etc but the legal cost made it to expensive. I went out with him privately and man is there some bragging ground out there. Crays and dhue go together like salt and pepper.

yes but then the pressure would be on to find them, you'd definantly want to be good at it, perhaps mix it up with some light tackle fun on salmon, herring and tailor, perhaps school pinkies and small sambos hell i'd go out and have a crack either way

I don't think theres no much pressue to find them,i went out 4 years in a row in the rivers of Cairns and caught nothing its always you should have been here yesterday or last week,,,,if you catch little or nothing folks are generally understanding that it can be quiet on the water,,

You could squid where ever you want,,a group of Japanese are staying in Hillarys and want to book you for the day ? Pick them up and launch at Hillarys,Manduarah or where ever the customers might be,,

I have also been 4 or 5 times. My best mate and best man is a tandem master there, but I aint jumping out off a good functioning plane, so I went fishing. $$$ for NADA. Never even saw a fish apart from the livies they got in the throw nets!!!!

Wont do that again.

What PFD do you use as a yaker?
