I do most of my Salmon chasing landbased in the SW so you need solid distance in your casts so - Richter Plugs 3-4oz and Raider 65-85 would be the most commonly used.
If they are in closer say >50m then I chuck on a hardbody. Best ones being Rapale X-rap sxr14 or good old Smiling Jacks Pillie.
Stickbaits like Shimano Ocean Pencil, Daiwa Dorado Slider or Owner Tango Dancer are also good.
Poppers are good too though I don't tend to use them. Try Halco Rooster 105/135.
rapala x-rap sxr10 or 12's. Most of my salmon experiences have been off rock groynes, the salmon tend to chase the bait right up against the rocks so you need a lure that will keep its depth until its pretty much at your feet. Ive probably caught over 30 salmon in the last 3 years and I'd say 95% of them were hooked within 5m of where i was standing.
Metal slice, good for casting and better for the wallet.
If the action is shut down I won't mind throwing a rapala subwalk or r2s rover. I think with salmon it's more location and time rather than the individual lure, they are very opportunistic feeders.
I also like to use metal slices (Halco). When they are running, anything will work so long as you can cast into the zone. I have seen guys using home made poppers (similar to pieces of broom handle). I have also caught Salmon on my home made surf poppers attached on a patanoster above a bait. Search "surf poppers" or similar for some threads on this humourous subject.
OH well, in Vic salmon in excess of 1 kg is considered monster because they don't appear in metro very regularly. They feed on the baitfish size of a 10g metal slice and hence matching the hatch.
Megabass Dog X is pretty much the same length. About 8cm.
All the fish landed on the above lures are about 800g in weight and quite fat. I struggled to get my hand around the fish.

I caught them on Yozuri
I caught them on Yozuri Crystal minnow 8cm and Megabass Dog X surface slicer and of course the trusty Halco Metal slice in 10g.
All caught blind casting on a sunny day on some broken ground from shore.

if your getting them on 10g slice they must be small salmon trout.

Yeah but,
the 7-8kg Bombers we get down here during the season would never touch anything that small.
