Hey all I've been doing abut of fishing down Mandurah lately and been catching lots of tailor when using them as live bait been continually smashed off by what I'm pretty sure are big sharks I want to try and land a few of these buggers what would be the best way to go about it I'm currently using a 12 foot surf rod and 30 pound mono and its impossible to stop the run they either strip 300 metres of line quickly of snap/ bite through any help would be greatly appreciated thank guys

What kind of reel? Need a
What kind of reel? Need a good heavy drag....
Heavier line will be necessary for sure.
Personally I would use at least 50lb line (bare minimum). Would make the switch to braid to fit more line on the spool, and I would fish with a very long, very heavy leader. Wire trace down near your bait too if you are confident it is sharks.

Hi Em801 I am down in
Hi Em801
I am down in Mandurah and am about to start targetting sharks - good to hear that you appear to be hooking them at least I was not sure of where to target sharks, a few of the FW lads suggested a bit further north towards rockingham, but having read your report I might give madurah beaches a go first.
hope you don't mind a quick question what size baits are you using (whole or sections) ? and how are you rigging the baits ? ballooning etc ??
I may see you down one of the beaches sometime !
Cheers

you would probably be better
you would probably be better useing a a large overhead reel eg tyrnos 30 and upward and try makeing up some fairly robust steel trace rigs

Hi Paul in using live bait tailor on a normal running lead rig with a fairly big live bait single hook using traces and Fluero leader both rigs just get picked up and smashed every time

30lb should be fine for
30lb should be fine for sharks to 2m, I'm only using 40lb for 2.5-3m ones and not having any dramas. Just change your Fluor leader out for a 90-100lb wire trace with the same single hook ad you should be able to get one while not limiting your chances of a mully. After your wire use as long a leader of 80-150lb mono as you ca to stop the skin from rubbing you off.
always looking for a new challenge!!

Bigger the better I say I
Bigger the better I say I use the fin nor 9500 80lb braid awsome reel. Long leader and wire trace are a must. I use plastic coated trace with two hooks. Can't beat live tailor for bait
Go big or go home..

Hi Guys,I was fishing the cut
Hi Guys,
I was fishing the cut on Thursday and there was reports that day of a 1.5metre bronzie. I didnt see it but I was anchorred up the ocean end and hooked up to a 3 foot shark which I have been told looked like a gummy. Unfortunatelly it straightenned the hook as we were getting the gaff but was good fun non the less. That was caught on incoming tide and a mulie bait.
