Rock Crabs

Heyy

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to bait a rock crab( what size hook, rig etc) and if they're any good as bait for anything??

Cheers

Hey Matt,

Crabs are great bait mate. I used them last year for landbased Pink Snapper off the rock walls. Especially when we cop those big NW storms which result in big wind gusts and swell which bashes into the rocks allowing the crabs to washed off and that what Pinkies are there to feed on. Crabs! Rigging them wise, I just pinned a 5/0 Owner SSW Circle hook through the back leg and coming through the rear end of the shell. Not only they are staple diet for Pink Snapper but also Baldchin Groper (all Tusk's fish species anyway), Black Bream, Tarwhine, Cods etc. Its a feed for any fish really! Hope this gave you a little of on idea on using crabs for bait. But I can't reiterate it enough about just taking enough for the session and let the others be.

Cheers mate.

Yeah I used up me mulies fishing at the mouth in Kalbarri so I hooked a crab in where one of its legs join to the body and caught good size tarwine. The crabs looked way to big for the fish i caught so dont be afraid to put a good sized one on.
