REVIEWS

Does anyone know of a good site for tackle (reel) reviews.

I've been doing a bit of prowling around and have only found bits and pieces.

There must be something out there with an unbiase perspective Money mouth

The only one I know of is www.tackletour.com

An american site so they have some gear we dont and vice versa. Otherwise if you have specific item you want to check, its good to plug it in forums and read through peoples comments both positive and negative. Sorting out the bias may be a little harder though :p

Reviews!

People can give a "review" which is good for a read but its not until you use something alot that you can get a proper opinion imo!

Thanks Matt,  best one I could find too.

Been tossing up between, from what I can make out, two fairly similar reels, but with completely different price tags - the Saltist 40 and Saltiga z40

Not having much joy finding info/reviews on the Saltiga (besides from the Daiwa sites).

Does the extra dosh warrant the feature differences?

Jody, I know a lot of people

Jody, I know a lot of people using the saltists. And they are one tough reel.

And for the price nothing really matches them IMO.

Hmmm

Yeah, I heard that a lot today Dean.

And unless the Saltiga has something else going for it,  gotta be the way to go.

In had one and I'm getting

In had one and I'm getting another. Nothing else is really tempting me and I don't think the Saltiga is worth the extra bucks.

IMHO, the 30TH takes plenty of 50lb and is a bit narrower so you don't have to fuss over line lay.

If you do get the 40, it will probably help with that bus you hooked up on Saturday though!

Ive got a z40 jody and it

Wed, 2008-11-12 07:46

Ive got a z40 jody and it stays at home. Prefer my saltist 30 anyday. But it has got upgraded drag to carbontex and jigg handle which makes it alittle nicer to use. The saltigas are great i just find mine to stuff around a bit and two other people i know say the same thing. Sometimes the drags sweet next time it pulls less than 5kg of pressure and that shits me when onto something decent and it takes you to china and back and you cant stop it.

If your going to buy a saltist 30 or 40 dont go the high speed version (ht) as the t is suffieint enough and more versitile.

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

Hey stranger

Hey Jody as you know i have the saltist 40 and cannot fault it even up here i have just changed the main gear and pinion to make it a standard speed as the gears in the high speed copped an absolute hammering up here bottom bashing all the time the main difference between the z saltiga and the saltists is the z have a sealed gearbox the main body is made of solid one piece aluminium and the gears are meant to be stronger but as you saw in the shop earlier this year they are not indestructable save some money get the saltist and get a new rod with it (I still havent broken the monsta mesh and i have punished it with the shark population up here)

Is there any particular

Wed, 2008-11-12 09:26

Is there any particular reason you are looking at the 40s over the 30s? The 30s on both will still hold 300m of 50lb braid no problems, plus the 30's are lighter. The z30 in particular weighs a measly 410g (compared to 690g for the 40/40z). Which is a 35% weight reduction. The 30H is 510g but all the other saltists are 650g+.

Might not sound like a huge difference perhaps, but when you're holding it all day, any weight reduction you can get is good. The 40's dont have any more drag pressure than the 30's so its just a line capacity issue. Bit pointless IMO adding 80lb to the reels, as they dont have enough drag to bother. They really should up the drag on the heavier models. 11kg (9-10kg a bit more realistically perhaps) on 50lb line doesnt even get to 50% of the line strength. With 80lb you wont be able to apply any more pressure to the fish, but you'll get less line on your reel.

good info!

Wed, 2008-11-12 10:46

Saltist are a great reel, in their class untouchable for strength & price. If over loaded the A/Reverse can go but repairable....strong regardless. We recommend either a Pre-service to remove excess drag washer grease (makes it far better) & lube other areas "or" still do a Pre-service but replace washers with Carbontex!
