Receipts that fade - is it a ploy to make warranty claims hard?

I picked up a Stradic 5000 FJ a year ago and earlier this week sent it back under warranty. The receipt was in the reel box and kept in my wardrobe at home. Yet after only 12 months the receipt had faded so much it was pretty hard to read. What happens if I need to get it fixed under warranty in another year, the receipt might be completely blank by then!

Almost seems like a ploy to stop warranty claims.

I also got a gift voucher from the same store and within a year it was blank and unable to be read. The store wasn't going to accept the voucher until they realised it was issued by a different store in the same chain.

Any else having the same issue?

Any tricks to get the receipt to last longer? Just photocopy it as soon as you get home?

Have taken a photocopy of my Stradic receipt now but it is already to late (too faded that the copier doesn't pick up the writing).

is also fun with fading reciepts.i would be giving the tax department a box of blank paper if i ever get audited.

unfortunately the only way to ensure you have a good copy is to photocopy as soon as you get it.

things like reels ...good retailers will put your name on the system so if a warranty is needed they can look you up.

With the stradic (shimano) you can send the warranty card in so it is registered in your name.

also don't keep the receipts in the cupboard next to the oven/heater/fireplace.

Have a few problems with tax

Thu, 2014-06-26 14:28

Have a few problems with tax receipts too (certainly not going to last 7 years)! I generally write the amount and item in pen next to it just in case.

Heat seems to be one of the problems, have also had issues with fumes off plastics or something else affecting them too!

Too many receipts in my tax file to photocopy but do sometimes take a copy of the major ones.

most people have scanners / copiers as printers in their house now, important receipts get copied and printed, or saved to the PC.

And if you don't have one, tax deduction if you buy one :)

Lamination will destroy the receipt, mrs thought she was doing the right thing after just purchasing a rfbl by laminating the receipt (proof until the card arrived) haha bad move as it turned the whole receipt black ( heat sensitive paper)

Too right in fact
In Aust you don't need a receipt.
you just have to prove you bought it where you say. So if you bought it on CC that will be enough.

just doesn't help those of us that buy with cash !!!

Yep the paper is indeed heat sensitive

Fri, 2014-06-27 11:15

Recently I inadvertently tossed a receipt out in the rubbish. After retrieving it the missus decided she would iron it to smooth it out as I had crumpled it up. Instant black was the result. I contacted Compleat Angler in Nedlands and they sent me a image / jpg of the Tax Invoice. Problem solved.

I take a photo with my phone of any receipt or any paperwork i think important and email it to my email address where I then move it to my 'receipts folder'. Everything's together and I can print it out if and when needed.  Easy.
