Radar detectors

Hey, just went for a cruise with a mate who has a radar detector.  it was suction cup to the windscreen and plug into ciggy socket.  It bloody worked when we drove towards an oncomming cop car.   Wouldn't mind gettin one for me missus, she got done recently (and she always drives me if I have had a few).  Anyone recently purchased one.  Any info about the latest detectors and the new cameras etc.  Do older detectors work with the new cameras?

Valentine 1 is the go, you pay the cash but worth it, and also get the vertical mounting bracket, they work better side on but when on the open highway they are worth their weight in gold.

Ha, Brucesta the electronic geek

Will check em out!  Any other feedback appreciated.  If I can save my missus another 3 points and $300, it will be worth while.

And for all the wowsers,  we have ridiculous speed limits here in Karratha.  Bloody 60km/hr on a 2 lane highway.  They need to pull their fingers out and get real.  The limit is 60, but wankers drive at 45???  It is a 2 lane highway, dickheads!

On your last point, if that was Perth and the limit was 60, everyone else would be doing 80.

Sounds like a ridiculous posted limit for such a road.

valentine one definately the go. i was down to one point then i got one of them and after three years had a full deck again. the only thing now is that nearly everything is laser except the highway patrol cars. Lasers only send out a short quick signal so you are pretty much busted straight away. the only way it will detect the laser early is if there is a car in front of you. the car can be 400mtrs in front of you and the valetine will still pick it up. another option is laser jammers but you have to be careful on which ones you get as most are illegal and they are a bit more expensive though.

jammers...apparently you can use parking sensors as they are on the same frequency or something of the like......

i know of  a bloke who go done for having "radar jammer" but he claimed they were parking sensors...went ot court and turns out they are legal after all that..

i got an old beltronics rx65....doesnt work on the multanovas in perth as well as the highway cars but living in carnarvon it only gets used on the hwy and its been doing the job well for 5 years and still goes hard.

Mate, check out a product called " ALG9". I have one fitted to my car and it's worth its weight in gold. these are good for hand helds as well as speed cameras, however they wont work on the old fashioned multinovas which Im pretty sure have all been moved to country areas.A company called "security gear" in Perth will sort you out for all that sort of stuff and advice, just google them

OK, so if I get the Valentine, it wont detect laser.  I am in Karratha. Laser is not too common up here.  The ALG9 is really just a laser "jammer" I think from my research. And also the ALG9 looks like $700.  Maybe will pass on the ALG9

I think, our main threat is from mobile police patrol cars and the cameras which come up here every 5 weeks for a week.  It was a roadside camera that got me missus.

What is the likelyhood that we will be inundated with laser in Karratha.

Thanks to you guys who know about this!

 the valentine will pick up

Sun, 2013-02-03 19:00

the valentine will pick up the laser but the laser will record your speed within a couple of seconds so you dont really have time to slow down, but if there is a car in front of you even if it is 300 mtrs in front of you it will pick up the the laser when that car goes pass the camera. in perth on the freeway i have had mine going off for easy 400 mtrs as there were plenty of cars going past the camera. hope that makes sense.

Thanks eziliving, and all others who offered advice.  I will go ahead and get the valentine.  Any idea how often they upgrade the models, to keep up with the latest radars?

One more question

Tue, 2013-02-05 11:19

One more question Brucesta.....

Why go for the vertical mounting bracket?  Does the height give a better detection from the rear?

Thanks heaps, I'm about to spend some money

i read on a website a while ago you get better range, possibly to do with the polarisation of the incoming signal. If you get one you get one but otherwise mount nice and high and pick up the scatter off the bonnets and roofs of other cars, low is not the go!

the radar also shots back wards as well so the higher you go the less interference from seat you will have. teh radar has arrows on it and will show which way the signal is coming from.
