Carp caught in an english gravel pit on sweetcorn, during the end of last summer. Are these classed as vermin in OZ due to the fact that they arent indigeneous?

You HAVE to keep them.
In Australian waters it's illegal to throw back carp, or redfin for that matter. They are considered pests due to their habit of "muddying up" the waterways/destroying natural habitat for native species/accelerating bank erosion.

That's a solid fish. Do they pull hard?

Damn nice carp there,
Damn nice carp there, reminds me of fishing for them in golf course lakes in Victoria(though not as big of course). How heavy was it by the way?
In the case of releasing them, my friend who is a W.A fisheires officer, she said to me that in W.A its not illegal to release a carp, goldfish, or redfin that you have caught, in the waters that you caught it from, though it is highly reccommend by them that you dont. She said to me the only thing you could get pinged from over here is if you are trying to introduce them into another waterway or body other than where it came from.
Just wanted to clarify that so you dont have to do some killing if you dont want to, but i do anyway!

Carp
This one went just over 20lb in old money, yes they pull like hell, only use 10lb line and a fairly light rod. Good sport when the seas to rough for a boat. I did eat them once in Prague, very boney and the flesh was quite soft, pike is a better choice if your stuck out in the boonies!

is that a mirror carp?
I remember back in the old country carp with big scales like that one where a different species. Anyway english winters prevent carp constantly breeding where here they never stop, thats why they are regarded as such a bloody pest.( Kinda like argentine ants & european wasps)
Redfin ( english perch) will keep breeding in a confined area until they run out of decent feed, The results then after a few years are just lots of runts left, but still breeding.
I`d rather be fishin`!!!

Charlie Carp
I've got (Australian) garden liquid fertiliser called 'Charlie Carp - A Good Fish Dead'. The whole fish is used and it certainly makes the garden grow!
