Kununurra Ord River

Hi guys, Kunno locals, Damo :)
I am leaving for Kunno on Friday and will be spending a couple days camped at Mamby Island with the family. I will have my little tinny to do a bit of fishing, but cant really go too far (leaving the family at campsite). What lures will be the best at this time of year? I have 4 stroke and here in Pilbara do well trolling scorpions.

So, as I have limited space thanks to my lovely family, I only want to bring 1 or 2 trays of lures.

What would you locals put in the tackle box?

Thanks, hope the barra are on the chew!

Gaden Barra Classic are the go.

You can troll anything you like but if its not bumping the bottom, you are not in the zone.

Take a few poppers and cast them around the weed beds and rockbars in the late arvo, big pops and long pauses are the go.

Lures

Standout lures for me on the Ord:
Transam
Lively Lure Mad Mullet, Bleeding Mullet
Scorpions as you have mentioned but fluro green best 3m
Classics, range of depths but purple or green colours
Warlocks 95 purple 4m
Killalure Barra Bait
Two Deadlys and fizzers.
Big B52 and don't be shy on Big.

We troll or cast
Troll the wood, not the bottom so find the depth of wood
Take some squidgy plastics; best atm are Mongrels rigged weedless and slow roll through wood or weed beds

Loads of obstructions for the skeg so travel slow. Ramp has a deep drop at the end so beware
Large croc at ramp thanks to knobs cleaning fish
You don't have to travel far to catch fish

Don't forget the lure retriever

Thanks heaps guys!

Are the cherabin firing?  Would like to have a taste of them!

When you say "Dont have to travel too far"  does this mean I wont have to go past the "rapids"?

Was hoping to stay close to the camp.  Missus has 2 yo and 8 month old, so probably shouldn't go too far from camp.

Check the requirements for cherabin, I know your not allowed pots in lower Ord but I would have to check as I dont fish for them.......

Live bait will work well if you want and plenty of people catch Barra at the ramp on the down stream side as there is a weed bank there, again remember the croc!

The rapids are up stream, you can get up through them just pick your line and just upstream from here is really good fishing on the northern side of the river. This would be a max of 3km upstream and should be good clear water so you will see obstructions.

You can also fish just downstream on the opposite side of river to ramp and there is plenty of wood here and pulled good fish; say 1km down and then move back up towards ramp.

Options are unlimited downstream but best to stay close to camp :)

We are fishing the Lyne the long weekend with POC and Clint (which you may know from Wickham - RioTinto?). POC is on Fishwrecked. We will fish for 4-5 days.

Other than that I'm in Town so if you want to catch up let me know. Can show you some local (close) spots while your in KNX

Cheers

Thanks for the info mate!

I am going to be in town to do some work on one of my properties.  If I get the jobs finished with a bit of time to spare I would be very interested in finding some closer spots to have a crack!  Even if it is just for a couple beers and a bit of bullshit, can you send me your mobile number please!
