i have to start all over again
howdy all
As i have lost my fishing spots in warnbro / rockingham due to hand held gps crapping itself on me. i have to start all over again, but this time i want to get a combo unit, my boat is only a 4.5m ally runabout so we dont go out too far but i did have some good spots on the 5. i dont want an el cheapo one and not a top of the wazza one either as i only go out to the 5 and wont be able to justify the $ just to go there. so my question is is thre a decent combo unit for around $700 that i should have a look at, any input would be appreciative. i need to start sounding for spots again soon when my tax comes in.
cheers

May want to look at the elite
May want to look at the elite 5 non dsi model... If its going to be your only sounder the dsi may not be the best choice... I have an elite 4dsi unit and whilst it is very good at finding structure the beam of the transducer is very wide but very thin, so not so good at finding schools.... So yea, do your research before spending your dosh

I just bought one of these with aus nz charts from koala gps online from the states $683 oz delivered, certainly looking forwards to getting it and having a play , nothing else in the price bracket comes near it for capability! www.koalagps.com

Yep can't look past
Yep can't look past the Dragonfly IMO . Value for your money. The one i fitted to my friends boat has worked great for them, they are not experianced in sounder or GPS use , but have found this unit very easy to use straight out of the box .

howdy am back in business
howdy am back in business again now, i ended up getting a lowrance elite5 combo unit with map in it.
i thought the map would have some known spots on it, like the d9 or artificial reef in warnbro but it doesent.
so my question is can i have the unit turned on at home out of the water for a while, to put these points in once ive checked the search button on here for there co ords. it might be a dumb question but hey dont want to ruin it yet, so theres no harm in asking before i do it, feel free to pass on any spots in the sound or 5 fathom bank i can use to start off again(lol). i hope to get out soon to find some more fishing spots. at least i can now back up my unit on another sd card which is a bonus
cheers

yep switch it on and start
yep switch it on and start plugging in the points, Ive got one, not overly impressed with it tbh, but itll do the job, I use Navionics on my iPad and just use the sounder function.. plus the MOB to put in points... took my boat out today for a great shakedown in the river and I couldnt find out any info on my trail, the ipad will give me distance, avg speed etc, not sure about the higher bracket lowrance range, but, ya get what ya pay for I suppose...
